I heard that the Pens are trading Fleury for Hasek, but then I remembered that I work in addictions treatment center and it was a client telling me this.

I didn't really follow what happened with the Caps that much but when Vokoun was with Florida he seen upwards of 40 shots a night on a regular basis. Florida was horrible all around..

I am not a big fan or anything but I don't really get the "Product of the systems" label that has been applied here. I think he just had a rough year with injuries on a team with a lot of locker room and media turmoil.

So, we agree ...

Oh, absolutely. The deal would be a solid one for Phoenix (assuming Staal extended), but has little to no value to the Penguins.

Honestly, I thought Volkoun had a solid, if unspectacular year with the Caps. His numbers (see below) aren't stellar, but they certainly seem better than most back-ups around the league.

Now Ek has a blog saying Staal for Yandle. Love Yandle but again, not the type of defenseman we need. We have enough flash, we need some bruisers.
- canadianpenfan

Reading some of the trade proposals on that thread is quite entertaining. The best was the Ranger fan talking about Staal and what line he would center on the other teams in the league. Apparently Laich>Staal among the other gems in that post.

I agree with you and the other comments about this rumor just doesn't make sense for the Pens. I like Yandle but I much rather go in another direction if they were to trade Staal.

Question ... is scoring the problem in Pittsburgh? Think about things - please.

Kane is a bum. I wouldn't want him anywhere near Pittsburgh. It's not his talent. Its the stuff that comes with him.

- Oneonta Penguin

Not a Kane fan. IMO we need size up front.

“@SNLouisJean: Michel Therrien told me the 1st person to contact him and congratulate him was Sidney Crosby. #ClassAct”

Edit: And of course because of that you get your first rds article trying to connect Crosby therein and the Canadiens.

Awesome to hear.

Hope this summer of completely healthy Staal, Malkin and Crosby translates into complete dominance.

Edit: You know French? haha

The Ranger fan is a retard ... he also said Turris over Staal. Laich certainly isn't better than Staal.

I don't think that I've seen one Staal trade that I would consider taking. On it's face, the Staal for Yandle + picks is a pretty nice deal (especially considering their contracts), but it doesn't fill a need for the Pens. It would have to be part of a pretty sizable roster change (like Letang being moved). Same with the first overall pick.

The only return that I would take for Staal right now is a deal involving a replacement 3rd line center, plus a top 4 physical defenseman or a top 6 winger. And with Staal being a UFA after this season, I don't think that a team is going to give up those pieces for a player whom they might only have for one season.

So in short, I don't know what the heck Shero should do if the extension doesn't look like it's going to happen here... You hate to see him walk after the season for nothing, but I would rather have that happen and have him for the playoffs, than get get shorted on the return and have the team not as good in the short term.

I would rather take the chance on the Cup run with Staal rather than make a trade for the sake of making a trade that makes little sense.

Until July 1 when Shero can speak to Staal everything to this point is speculation anyways.

The Cardinals fall behind in the standings so you rush to front run with the Pirates?

Congrats.

I agree. If we were to trade Staal to the Yotes the package would be 2 of Hanzal, Klesla, and Boedker I think. A lot for the Yotes to give up but that's what I would want.

I wish I was friends with the Shero family and had inside info. I think that's my mission this summer is to find them become friends with them and report back here with what I find. I may have to change my user name to Trina's oil or something.
