No. He just has to have a doctor's note that he is unable to play. And if the NHL feels like that may be fudged, they have a right to have a second opinion. There is no need for someone to attempt to come back. (Think about it, you wouldn't say a paralyzed player wasn't eligible for LTIR, would you?)

No, the person would just retire. It's the over 35 thing that had me thinking that.

Point is that Bryz made $10M this past year. Not cap hit. He is not a top 10 goalie. Just responding to the stat comments from Bodiva and his use of so called fans.

And to think people always told me, "it doesn't matter if you vote."
- BulliesPhan87

That's because they knew you're registered with the Silly Party and would vote accordingly.

But a person who's disabled wouldn't want to retire and forgo the only remaining big paydays they have left coming to them.

Aren't the contracts insured for that reason?

Eh, I disagree with his comment about Parise. I thought the kid worked hard all game. Otherwise the overall theme of the article is pretty spot on: the Kings kicked the Devils arse last night. Hard.

Agreed, interesting to note any goalie who got a 'no' was probably not available, let alone at a reasonable trade value.

It also might've been those anecdotes about write in votes for David Bowie. This world really needs a sarcasm emoticon.

The team has insurance so it can pay the player his guaranteed contract even if he cannot play. For a high-end player that moves the monetary expense to the insurer but the cap expense to LTIR if a player does not retire. For the lower-priced player, the team just absorbs the monetary expense, with the cap expense still moving to LTIR. If you as a player know you will be paid the full amount of your contract if you are physically unable to perform, you aren't likely to use your own money to pay for insurance so you can retire, rather than be LTIRed.

Thanks. Interesting. I know my sister when she was a resident had a very bright, very young, very socially awkward intern (the son of the doctor who delivered 4 of the 5 of us). She told him he'd better go into pure research. Sounds like this kid is better adjusted, with the teamwork aspect of his field of specialization being a deciding factor for him.

I'm amazed at how smart a person can be. I could study every single minute of the day and never be on that level. Its a gift.

If you were the flyers, would you take a look at Erik Johnson at all? What would you give up for him?

Game 2 he did...but, hell, give the kid a break (not you per se). He was a rookie in the playoffs...he wasn't even expected to start the season, let alone start in the playoffs.

Give him credit for what he did, acknowledge he made mistakes, and admit he has a lot of potential coupled with athleticism and youth.

Also, I was wrong...he didn't get put in the pressbox after Game 1, but after Game 2. My mistake.

Anyway, I thought it was a mistake then, an over-reaction. Imagine if Lavi took the same approach with Bryz? He would have been in the press box after getting annihilated by the Penguins.

The truth is that we don't. Schenn would be the start to that deal. Yandle is a top talent but I am fully in support of a right handed D man. Is it vital? No. But it is a serious part to our solution. Offensive (still responsible in their own end) R handed D.

Hard to come by but why not shot for the moon?

- coffee junkie

I wouldn't consider Yandle shooting for the moon. Yandle is similar to Carle. With the exception of being RH.

I could care less what he get's paid. I don't write the checks. I care about his Cap hit. And there is no doubt that he can be a top 10 Goalie going forward.

The team is required by the League to insure it's top 5 contracts. But that's the team. Does Pronger have insurance on his contract? He's due 19M for the rest of his deal. No what those insurance premuims would be like?

This is completely irrelevant.
- Jimmygrazz

Richards and Carter were apparently in play around the same time. The Flyers could have swung a trade for another non-UFA goalie. I threw it out there for discussion purposes. Just curious how people rate other goalies in comparison to ours.

There's a big difference between getting your arse kicked, and not playing hard and not competing.
