The better team can make the lesser team look like they aren't competing. No team makes it to the cup and then doesn't compete.

He's getting paid to write hockey columns and cover the Stanley Cup Finals. He should devote more time posting here to further his career.

No what he needs to do is devote more time to learning the difference between getting outplayed by a better team, and a lack of effort.

There are many people paid to do many jobs, that doesn't mean none of them are jackasses.

Yep, all of a sudden Zach Parise and the Devils decided to stop competing. They're satisifed with just making it there. That's good enough for them.

Do you really think management isn't at least considering their options at goal? Or, do you think they are ecstatic that they have that problem solved for the foreseeable future? If you could choose from this list of goalies, would you choose Bryz over any of them?

The kings have dominated all post season. Is it coincidence that the devils are down 3-0 like every other team that faced them or is there a trend I'm seeing here? Saying the devils aren't trying is laughable.

Two reasons. One is that is drastically effects your off season flexibility. Secondly there is this misbelief that having a player on LTIR during the Season is a wash. It isn't. Using LTIR prevents a team from banking Cap space during the Season and can effect a team's flexibility during the Season also.
- MJL

also doesn't it count towards the amount of pro contracts a team is allowed to have? seem to remember the Flyers having an issue with this at the last deadline and needed to jettison a player or two.

unless any of them were available at the time they got Bryzgalov or are even available now, it matters not.

What are we going to deal in, reality or fantasy? Did the Flyers have a choice between those players and Bryzgalov. If they did , then you can ask that question. But they chose from what was available. And they chose Bryzgalov. And all that matters is what happens going forward with Bryzgalov. Not who you would hypothetically pick from that list over Bryzgalov. That's irrelevant.

Devils called out for lack of competitiveness. I guess two goals in three games really is pathetic. Who would have thunk it...

Quite a while ago, OB and I experimented with trying to keep things "on topic" here but the consensus of the posters was that the group preferred more free-flowing conversation. Ironically, or perhaps expectedly, some of the more vocal proponents of allowing for nothing to be off topic here are now complaining about these threads not being on topic.

Just thought I'd check in and ask if you all still want the threads to be more free flowing and allowing for latitude in topics as long as things don't get overheated/obscene?

Why would you use it on a guy who won't effectively hit your cap during the season?
- bodiva88

Im not sure how LTIR works, but I thought you had to make an effort to return in some capacity to stay on it? If Pronger wants to retire and not deal with any of that, why wouldn't the team do it?

A player does not have to make an effort to return in some capacity to stay on LTIR. That is a misconception. How can a player who isn't cleared for Hockey activities medically, make an effort to return? If Pronger retires, he doesn't get paid.
