I guess my question is...how can the Bruins be OK with this and if he breaks his contract why should the Bruins be penalized? - Dkos
Here is my only rationale. He went to the Bruins and told them he was thinking about retiring.. he wants to spend time with his family and focus on faith and what not. They know they are stuck regardless, so they extended this offer to him. Take the year off, and finish that last year fresh, and try to go out witrh a bang. |

so he is going to count against their cap then correct? - JoeRussomanno
Yes unless there is some obscure rule relating to a suspended player that I'm unaware of. |

No it is not right. Thomas is literally screwing the Bruins. - MJL
At the very least, they can save their real dollars by suspending him, correct? Doesn't help their cap dollars, but it's something. I'd agree it's irresponsible of him to do this. |

I'm not telling the Flyers to go hang all thier post-season moves on getting Radulov... I'm just saying, if you can get him cheap it would be a low risk, high reward type of gamble.
You say they can use that money for someone else. I dont see a lot of guys out there other then Parise and Semin that can do what Radulov currently can, and still have his potential up-side. I also don't think you will get either of those players, and I know you wont be able to sign them anywhere near a low as you might be able to get Radulov for.
If you are able to sign him for a decent price, then you will be able to trade some offense like Bill said for the Defense you need. And it also keeps him off the Rangers, since they are looking in getting him. - RooNosHockey
What exactly is it that Radulov can currently do? I would have zero interest under any circumstances. And I pray the Flyers feel the same way. He is the last thing this team needs. |

I thought he was supposed to have morals? I can understand being burned out playing pro sports, but he's got think of a better way to handle this. |

I wanna know the whole background of this. They (the org) seem way to willing to allow this. Suspending him will prevent him from collecting the pay, but the cap hit will not change. |

You guys are a bunch of jerks. I just told my boss that I don't want to work this year, and that I am over 35.
I just got fired (I guess you could say waived).
I'm pretty sure these rules are unique to hockey and not everywhere, right? |

the other thing that doesn't sit well with me is Thomas' comment that he wants to concentrate on family, friends and faith. Why can't he do that and still keep his job? I do. I'm willing to bet he has a lot more free time per year than I do. - Dkos
Thomas has been a notoriously bad team guy. At least Rask will get another shot at being the starter. I think he'll be a premier goalie in this league. He showed glimpses of his abilities in 2010 and last year prior to his injury. |

Not all decisions teams make are good ones. But the jury is still out on that one. Another example of a bad potential move is a team like the Flyers spinning the dice with a malcontent player such as Radulov. |

I don't know where you heard that about him and NY, was never the case - jimbro83
Even if he did (I had heard him described by some as a 'prima donna', for what it's worth), Jagr has a much, much more reliable resumé and had much more time to even out these alleged attitude problems. Is Radulov going to have the same sort of epiphany over the course of one off season? |

I thought he had a full nmc.. could be wrong. Even still, if he wanted to retire, that wouldnt help them. |

i seem to also remember him having some good seasons there especially his last playoff series I think he put a bunch of points but that was 5 years ago so I'm hazy on that. Either way I know there was some buzz about him being a prima-donna but for the most part Jagr has been an elite player through two decades and could have retired 10 years ago and still be a hall of famer, its definitely a weak comparison. |

I'm guessing the 'whatever, we'll deal with it' attitude the organization is taking is trying to not let it have an increased negative impact on the team. I'm sure there's plenty of angst over it behind closed doors. That said, I'm also curious about what's so important to Thomas that he'd do something so crass. |
