Thomas=Roy HUGE egos, It's apparent that TT wants to go to an " Contender "! All those rumors about Nash etc. He's pulled out of the Boston area and is in a position to navigate his future with this stunt! He'll end up in Detroit, and as for being religious, we're familiar with the value systems within our faiths, but really does this situation apply. He signed a contract and as a GOD fairing man he should adhere to it!
Retire or honor his commitment. This is nothing but a power play of sorts, it just reeks of the pungent fragrance of self importance! |

Has to be the most selfish athlete I've ever seen if your dOne with hockey then retire don't screw your teams cap situation cause u want to take a year off, which I find funny cause did he not sign a contract to play hockey for x number of years? If I were PC I'd do everything I could to make sure he has tO at least report to the team and honor his contract or he doesn't play in any NHL events Olympics allstar game ect. Classless move by a classless guy hope to never see him in hockey again |

true, he was a real threat to make the Olympic team in this non-Olympic year and he's a shoe-in for the all star game if he doesn't play. |

It's easy to see why the rule exists, but it certainly could be adjusted somehow because of cases like this. |

You do realize that if he retired, the impact would be exactly the same right?
He's forfeiting $3M to spend time with his family. What a selfish wiener. |

2 takes on this
1. maybe it's a precursor for a lock out next year
2. If there is any goalie that can take 8 months off and then help a team in the spring, it's thomas |

The Guy is a wingnut. Plane and simple. Talented goalie. Extremely talented goalie. But he has made it clear hes not a team player. Unfortunatley there is an "I" in "Tim" - vancity787
There is also an "i" in Riot |

The Bruins would be worse off if he retired. This way there is still a possibility the Bruins can get someone to take his cap hit. |

Honoring the contract would be a good start. While the Bruins don't have to pay him, his salary still counts against the cap. - atc
that's more a ding on Chiarelli than Thomas.
Our GM all but admitted that he misunderstood the rule.
Look, things in life change. Sucks that the B's are stuck with the cap hit, but he's walking away from 3 million. He must feel really strongly about what he and his family needs at this moment in time to walk away from that type of cash. |

I just don't think we have heard the real story here. The whole thing is just too bizarre and TT wont talk to the Left Wing Liberal Media in Boston.

I'm curious as to what Boston fans think Rask will re-sign for? |

I'm guessing 2-3 years just shy of $4M per. |

didnt read the article but a couple questions....
1) why wouldn't they buy him out?
2) if they don't buy him out, do they still pay his salary? |

Pretty sure the 35+ rule dictates that buyout would do nothing to his cap hit although they'd only have to pay him 2/3rds if he wanted to play.
No if he's suspended they don't have to pay him. |
