The Bruins would be worse off if he retired. This way there is still a possibility the Bruins can get someone to take his cap hit.

Honoring the contract would be a good start. While the Bruins don't have to pay him, his salary still counts against the cap.

Pretty sure the 35+ rule dictates that buyout would do nothing to his cap hit although they'd only have to pay him 2/3rds if he wanted to play.

No if he's suspended they don't have to pay him.
