when you put it that way it really puts me in my place! hows about we rephrase that. "yeah, bacause a 6th rounder is an unreasonable return for a 4.2 million dollar d-man that sat in the press box more often than not : duh:

WTF are you talking about? Ballard was injured most of the season, he was a healthy scratch for only a couple games. Ballard's issues were with AV, and that he won't play the right side, not because of his play.
No reason to turn into a douche just because of a difference of opinion.
As I said, Ballard is a top4 D on a quarter of the teams in the NHL, who don't have an arrogant little dictator of a coach. |

OKAY man... so youre 39/40 years old... have played 20 years in the NHL... made probably around 80 million dollars in that time frame.. you have a wife and kids who you haven't seen a ton because you're away from them alot of the year.. you miss a ton of important moments in their young lives.
Brodeur is an unusual circumstance.... he is in a situation where he is still a #1 (his goalie style allows him to).. and I believe he owes a ton of money because of his divorce so he has alot of motivation to earn some big dollars.
Lu's style of play probably won't allow him to play much past 38... physically speaking. He has already had groin issues throughout his career. - kneughter
hockey players get to spend more time with their familys than most working stiffs... and when he does retire (in his early 40's!) he can spend all the time with thme he wants... the money is a factor, but love for the game is there as well... look at chelios, hasek, etc.

I don't like having to take Schenn's caphit back....he's just awful...but if I was gm Gardiner and the 5th might be enough to get it done, would be a huge gamble in our part - I-own_da-Northwest

Okay.... so LU wants to play... the team doesn`t need him. So they send him to the minors.. and hes okay with that.
GUESS WHAT? The 5.3 million cap hit is gone... and you can now do whatever you want with it. I dont think owners would have a hard time biting that 1 million dollars per year to keep him in the minors.
See how easy that was? WOW |

lol it's funny how quick people are to just poop all over a young player, especially after a sophomore season, and act as if that performance is indicative of their potential

it all depends man, the leafs need more backbone and starpower, otherwise, we'll continue to roll 2-2nd lines, and the same thing that happened this season will happen next |

The Leafs have 0 use for Ballard given his salary and the abundance of D they already have. They would much rather keep Franson.
The Leafs also have 0 use for a soft winger in Raymond who spends more time on his back and knees than a hooker in Vancouver's downtown eastside.
Thanks, but the Leafs can have Luongo for much less! - As_I_See_It

He could be buried in the minors if it came to that.... that would most likely force him to retire... similar situation to many players in their careers. He doesn't have a NMC.. just a NTC... the cap hit would then be off the hook. - kneughter
Yea i guess that could be a possibility. I'm not sure that Burke will be around 2-3 years from but if he is I don't see that happening. I don't know if its a problem but Burke's morals keep him from signing those big cap circumventing contracts and I feel those same morals would prevent him from forcing a player into retirement by sending them down like that |

No worries, it happens.
His cap hit doesn't fit his role the last few seasons, but he has also been used improperly. Ballard could likely step into the top4 of Edm, NYI, Anh, Clb, Car, TB, just off the top of my head.
With the price for veteran offensive-minded D, many of those teams would take the cap-hit and give up a 6th rounder for Ballard. |

you're high right please tell me you're (frank)ing high - The_Vark
As long as we don't have to give up this year's first, I'm ok giving up a first rounder. But let's assume it'll take more than just Kadri and Komi's fat wallet to get Luongo.
They'll probably want a first, but I can't imagine giving up our 5th overall being a smart idea as I'm sure BB still has the Kessel-gate thing in the back of his head.
If Luongo plays more than 50 games next year we're virtually guaranteed that pick isn't top 10.
I threw in this year's second in order to get Army's contract thrown into the mix as well.
If we could somehow get a very late first for Reimer then I'd be ok letting Scrivens backup next year |
