And why are people having such a tough time understanding that there is NO chance Lu is playing out the last 3-4 years of his deal. He is one of the most competetive guys in hockey... and will not stick around to make a million dollars a year as a back up. He would rather take his 58 million he has already been paid and spend time with his family. Heck... he would probably make more money being a goalie coach or something that involves much less commitment.

He was discussing being closer to his family and spending more time in the off season with them like his first year in Van.. hes italian... and its obvious family is extremely important to him. He will retire the MINUTE he feels he isn't playing at the level he wants to be OR he starts making 1 million a year and the money can't justify the committment neccessary at that point in his career.

It was a deliberate cap circumventing deal that the minute it was signed other GM's were up in arms because they knew Lu wasn't playing past 40... the contract was almost nixed because of all the allegations of "prior understandings"

teams wont take him for peanuts unless they need to get to cap floor. he couldn't make the bottom pairing for 4.2 million. it would cost assets for gillis to be rid of him maybe ballard and a 4th for a 7th. sorry bro... teams would rather let the nucks lay in the bed they made. if gillis could have traded ballard prior and used that space to improve the teams chances at the cup and didnt out of pride.... nucks fans have some big big problems at the helm
- ChrisMS

What are you talking about. When he wasn't injured he was the Canucks 5th D. The only reason he was bottom pair was because Edler and Hamhuis are better left-side D, as well as the fact that he and AV don't get along because Ballard said he didn't want to play the right side.

Ballard is a top4 D on at least a quarter of the teams in the league.

1 million dollars a year doesn't justify the commitment? What... is everyone on this sight a BILLIONAIRE. "oh, its just a million dollars, I don't need to be payed only one million dollars to play a game I love... not me, no sir" BBLUURTETE... that was the sound of my rectum expelling gas

Look at what is happeneing with Thomas...

If you have earned 61 million dollars... would you stick around for 3 years to earn 3 more? What if family was extremely important to you? and you were extremely competetive.. and were told you were going to become a back up? or they were sending you to the AHL? Would you stick around then?

Use your head man...

talking about ballard. seriously though. the posts by the nucks fans remind me of cloutiers blogs about returns for the first overall pick. it aint worth what you think its worth
- ChrisMS

Yeah, because a 6th rounder is an unreasonable return for a top4 D

Not to mention a valid comparison to what the Oilers expectations are on a return for the 1st overall...

Ballard is not a problem . Remember his LTIR concussion last year ? If they don't find a trade partner I am sure his symptoms will return.

If I'm competitive, I'm finishing the contract i agreed to when I signed it. I'm leading an AHL team to the calder cup, and I'm earning ONE MILLION DOLLARS to do it. If I'm physically ablw to strap on pads I'm playing the game I love... because once its over... its Over

Its a metaphor. You can try to convince us leaf fans that he won't play out the duration of his contract because he's a family man and extremely competitive but at the end of the day there's no guarentees. As a rebuilding franchise it's not in our best interest to take a gamble on maybes. If he continues to play past year six then we look like fools and you guys are laughing. I'm sure these boards would be swamped with nucks fans saying we should have known better to sign a $5.3 million/10 year contract.

nope, will be Komi, forward prospect not named Kadri, Frattin or Colburne and a conditional pick, based on if the Leafs make the playoffs, and how many rounds they advance.

OKAY man... so youre 39/40 years old... have played 20 years in the NHL... made probably around 80 million dollars in that time frame.. you have a wife and kids who you haven't seen a ton because you're away from them alot of the year.. you miss a ton of important moments in their young lives. And you stick around in the AHL for 3 more years? Even if that was the case... the cap hit would be GONE!!!

Brodeur is an unusual circumstance.... he is in a situation where he is still a #1 (his goalie style allows him to).. and I believe he owes a ton of money because of his divorce so he has alot of motivation to earn some big dollars.

Lu's style of play probably won't allow him to play much past 38... physically speaking. He has already had groin issues throughout his career.

He could be buried in the minors if it came to that.... that would most likely force him to retire... similar situation to many players in their careers. He doesn't have a NMC.. just a NTC... the cap hit would then be off the hook.

I don't like having to take Schenn's caphit back....he's just awful...but if I was gm Gardiner and the 5th might be enough to get it done, would be a huge gamble in our part
