I think the Flyers are making a mistake trying to replace Pronger. When you look around the league there are few players at that caliber. The Flyers need to add another defense who fits their system. The player doesnt have to be Pronger (bc thats nearly impossible) but they need to get a player who has solid skill sets who can fit in.
- stveshdy

There is no real way to replace a healthy, in his prime Pronger, thing is that guy was never really here. From jump street the Pronger that played in Philadelphia, while still very good, lost a few mph off his fastball due to father time and injuries.

I don't think it would be a terrible thing to stay status quo this year on the blue line, then put all the eggs in the Weber basket and hope he becomes a UFA.

The one thing I'm fairly certain of the Flyers defense core as is, isn't good enough to win a Stanley Cup, finding that top pairing guy is going to be a tough task. Hopefully one Holmgren is up to.

I'm ready to move on from Jagr. Jagr works hard but his game fell off the map as the season went on. Not a fan of a player demanding where he should play (I believe you earn it imo).
- stveshdy

I kind of agree, actually. I understand Jagr's desire to be an important part of whatever team he signs with, but I don't like the public demand for powerplay minutes and the like. It's not a GM's job to assure and distribute minutes, that's the coach's duty.

I'm not saying this is some mortal sin on Jagr's part, either, it just rubs me the wrong way.

It's not that I don't want to walk away from Jagr, I'm just not seeing how we can. If the Flyers want Suter, that's fine. However Suter can only do so much to replace Pronger and Timonen in the near future.

I was wondering how long it would take. Took a little longer then I thought.
- MJL

Took a lot longer than I thought.. I figured he would be the Mike Bossy or Reggie Leach of this generation.. Hell he is already nearing 65 playoff games and just scored his first big stanley cup goal. Took way longer than I thou..... OH wait! You mean you were wondering how long it would take until someone commented?!!?

I disagree.. When healthy they are certainly good enough.. Team defense is another story..

Flyers can easily walk away from Jagr. And would be wise to do so. Soon to be 41 year olds who are prone to lower extremity injuries aren't exactly in demand.

So out of the UFAs, who would be a top 6 for us. I'm excluding centers:
LW
Semin
Parise
Penner

RW
Doan
Jagr
Selanne
Boyes

Maybies:
Kotalik
Parenteau
Huselius
Kostitsyn
Ponikarovsky

I'm not even looking at Weber because I have a better chance of hitting the megamillions than him coming to Philly. They will address the defense this offseason. When you look at next years UFA's you have three guys who are of interest: Enstrom, White, and Edler. The options are limited this year and next year so I suppose Homer may have to go the trade route to acquire a defenseman.

Well yes, team defense, and goaltending have to improve exponentially. Seeing how other goaltenders have performed in these playoffs, I'm having my doubts that Bryzgalov is going to play at that level.

Some players in fact a lot of players go their entire career without scoring a big Stanley Cup goal. So that put's Carter ahead of a hell of a lot of players. I agree it's about time Carter scored a big playoff goal. But I had no doubts that it would come eventually.

You can use a veteran presence but it doesn't have to cost you over $3M and 41 years of age. The Flyers have other players who should be able to step up in Jagr's spot next season.

I think there is a chance Weber lands in Philly via free agency or trade. It's not far fetched at all to see him land with the Flyers imo.

Im being sarcastic.

He isnt the game changer I thought he would be a few years back.. but he does a solid enough job. IMO, it was only a matter of time before hed get one.

Well it's definitely not far fetched to know the Flyers will try and get him and stick their noses in there. Of that I am almost certain.

what do you think gets him to philly? I'd say it's gonna be something like three roster players, a high pick and a prospect. Could be a huge pill to swallow and we might have to accept that the move could set the team back a year or two.

I see Weber signing a huge contract with Nashville. Theres no doubt in my mind that he is comfortable in Nashville and the team is commited to winning. Its fair to say that Nashville has been as good as the Flyers the previous two seasons.

I again disagree. Brodeur is in the cup finals and hasnt been jaw dropping good. Quick is a different story, but that isnt the norm.

You need a team wide commitment to playing two way hockey.. and thats what both teams have done better than anyone else. You do that, and it makes life a lot easier on everyone.. goalie on out..

Not to create a big debate but I think he and the other guy have the talent to be game changers game in and game out, unfortunately....

I think a lot of the reason Jagr fell off in the second have were because he was spent physically and battling injury. You might try and use that as an excuse why they shouldn't resign him, but I think the reason he was physically spent is because he went straight from the end of the KHL season, to the WC which he had a late run, and only had a short break before coming to training camp and worked extra hard to get in "NHL" shape.

IMO if he takes off this entire off-season he will be much better come the second half next season. If the Flyers do move some forwards for a D-man, then having Jagr would be nice. If he isn't playing to his ability, and wont take lesser minutes, then they can trade him to a team he wants to play for, no skin off our noses.
