Enstrom makes the most sense for the Flyers if they just wait for him to hit UFA and he'll slip right into Timonen's spot. The Jets have Kane, Pavelec, Bogosian, Wheeler, Little and Burmistrov all going RFA in the next 2 summers on a strict budget... chances are good that keeping that young core intact would mean they'd have to pass on some of their major impending UFA's, like Enstrom. No need to deal assets for somebody who will likely be had for free next summer.

If we're talking about replacing Pronger, there are very few candidates who could even come close to doing that. Enstrom is definitely not one of them.

IMO, the best bet would be Erik Johnson... JvR + would probably get it done. The kid's been a bit inconsistent offensively on some offensively mediocre clubs, but he's big, mobile, puck-savvy, and physical enough, to maybe get to Pronger territory in the near future. Not to mention, he's RH.

Avs probably would prefer to hang on to him, but their pipeline is strong on the backend and weak on the wings.

- Tomahawk

Johnson is a very intriguing guy. I agree that JvR+ would probably be enough, too.

I think that the Flyers are a little torn on JvR, too. I think that they want him to ride shotgun with Giroux, but also realize he's a good trade bait.

Enstrom would be difficult to pry and he's a left-handed shot. I'd be looking elsewhere anyway.

I know some ppl think that the right handed shot isnt a big deal, but look at the teams in the playoffs this year..
Players with RH shots:

LA.. Doughty, Voynov...
Nsh.. Weber, Klein
Chi.. Seabrooke
Stl.. Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk
VA.. Bieksa, Tanev
Det.. Ian Cole
Phx.. Aucoin, Morris
SJ.. Burns, Boyle, Braun, Demers

NJ.. Zidlicky
Pit.. Letang, Michalek
NYR.. Girardi, God
Bos.. Boychuck, Corvo, McQuaid
Was..Carlson, Green, Wideman
Ott.. Karlsson, Carkner
Fla.. Gudbranson, Weaver
Phi.. none

Parise specifically said the Devils actively exploited the lack of a RH defenseman on the Flyers roster.

I think I am in the minority when it comes to laying low...

I think this team needs a few minor tweaks.. Sign Slater or Campbell, and see how UFA shakes out.. go after a guy like Weaver to play strictly as the 6th d-man..

Timonen-Carle
Coburn-Grossmann
Meszy-Weaver
Lilja-MAB/Gusty

Thats a pretty solid d group. If kimmo cant start the season, shift MAB or Gusty in there with Weaver and move Meszy up.

Dont give up assets when you will have a good amount of space made available next offseason.

Its super important when trying to move the puck d-man to d-man quickly.. also tough to get one timers d-man to d-man.

It would be fantastic to get a guy in there, but you will pay a premium.

That premature extension really threw it all off -- if JvR had been signed to a more affordable/reasonable extension this summer, things would look a lot different for him.

With that being said, all things being equal, I'd take the RH d-man over the LW goal-scorer.

Speaking of the Avs, I'd love to pry David Jones away from them. That's a guy I could see doing well flanking any one of our centers.

Not holding my breath on that one.

Guys like Schenn, JVR, Couturier and Voracek could all easily put up better numbers next season.

- bradleyc4

Put up better numbers then what they did personally or better numbers then what Jagr did? Even with injuries, Jagr I believe Jagr was third in puts on the team.

I agree it may have been a bit pre-mature, but it was a longer term deal and it looked like he was really going to blossom, and probably would have had he not suffered so many crippling injuries. I honestly think he and G are gonna be monsters next season

It takes a second longer to turn the body and clear the puck/keep the puck in on the backhand... I'm not surprised that teams would look to exploit that.

You can just call me Mr. Drama.

How about Carter scoring a clutch goal the other night... guess it was only because it wasnt an open net

If they do bring back Jagr, it would be as much for his veteran example as it would be for his scoring prowess. He's not interested in a lesser role, so that might be the biggest stumbling block. JvR/Schenn/Couturier are probably ready for extended PP minutes.

"seeing eye shot"

In Philly, he misses that 10 out of 9 times. In game 6's of cup finals in Philly. He would wait a bit longer until the net is completely open, and then fire it low of off a stick. Pro-typical Carter play.

The Avs gave up a lot to acquire Johnson. Not sure they would give up on him. I do like the idea of trying to get him.

I'm ready to move on from Jagr. Jagr works hard but his game fell off the map as the season went on. Not a fan of a player demanding where he should play (I believe you earn it imo).

Agree on both parts. I see Enstrom as pretty much on par with Carle. Although I think Enstrom is the better overall player if I had to choose. I don't see Enstrom as being nearly as good in his own end as Timonen is.

Biggest goal of Carter's career. Broken feet, and hitting goalies in the mask with wide open nets are in his rear view mirror.

I would be shocked if Jagr is back next year. The Flyers know there is a gaping hole on the backend that has to be filled.

I think we will know where this team is going by the Draft. Whether it's trading up, or using a forward and the pick to acquire a short-term D-man, or standing pat. I do like Bill's idea to land someone like Enstrom and try and sign a top 6 Forward. But honestly I would really like to sign Jamie Langenbrunner, not as a top 6, but as part of a checking line we could put together.

I think the Flyers are making a mistake trying to replace Pronger. When you look around the league there are few players at that caliber. The Flyers need to add another defense who fits their system. The player doesnt have to be Pronger (bc thats nearly impossible) but they need to get a player who has solid skill sets who can fit in.
