From 08 because JVR was drafted in 07 right? So the players I listed all have less NHL time than JVR correct?
- PLindbergh31

Correct. But what happened to the last 9 Seasons that you started with?

Ok I'm a fun guy, I'll play along.

# 2 picks from 2008 to current:

2008 Drew Doughty
2009 Victor Hedman
2010 Tyler Seguin
2011 Gabriel Landeskog

Just a hunch, I think all these guys currently have more value than JVR does.

I think I get what you're saying but not every pick is going to be a slam dunk. However I think a guy that got Drafted 22nd overall in 2006 might have as much value as that whole list.

You brought up a fair point, it's unfair to compare JVR with guys who have played many more season. That's why I listed the guys drafted after him.

So whats your point.. you have gone from he has low value and a bad contract, to there are other guys who were drafted #2 who have better value..

My main point was JVR right now doesn't have the value of a # 2 pick, in comparison to recent drafts. Nothing more, nothing less.

Absolutely.

Thats why its hard to put a value on a certain player. Teams that are desperate are usually going to overpay and create higher value. So it really depends on the team. JvR has plenty of value in my eyes. Hes a young power forward who is still developing and has plenty of potential.

What if JvR goes out and puts up 40 goals and 40 assists next season.. is he still at the bottom of the value pole. Some guys take a little while to develop... Again, typically big guys go through this.

Okay, so then what is your point? And why does it matter if those players have more value then JVR. It's irrelevant. If those players were available in the same draft, maybe the Flyers would have taken one of them instead. But the weren't. So who cares!

If JvR puts up those numbers I guarantee the Flyers will not trade him. He has the potential to put up very good numbers. His value is based on opposing teams and what their willing to pay.

iirc his name was circulating pretty hard during the weeks leading up to the deadline. He might not have the value of other 2 picks but his value is up there.

I knew Gagne would play. Even when the LA GM called him a long shot 2-3 weeks ago. Go Kings!!
