Definitely debatable. But the Heater has been surrounded by some pretty elite talent his entire career in ATL, OTT, and SJS, hell, he even has Mikko Koivu in MIN right now.

The best player Nash has ever lined up next to is who? Umberger, Huseilius, Brassard, Vermette, Malhotra?

With the exception of MIN, Heatley has played with future HOF'ers on every team. Nash hasnt even played with all stars on a team before

- FourFeathers773

The only real arguement there is to be made. I can go a bit more in depth, because Nash hasn't exactly played with absolute nobodies his entire career, but yes, Heatley has always been surrounded by more talent.

I still consider Heatley the better player, but it's just an opinion.

Maguire thinks landing spots for parise, if he leaves devils, are wings, Hawks, and pens.
I'd cant see how pens can afford (unless they trade staal), wings have a bucket of open space. But the hawks??????????
Jj's, this on your radar?

Why do I get this feeling that Tim Thomas is like one of these people that would hide out in the back country with a massive amount of weapons and taking part in some militia?

I heard it did when Q agreed to stay. He's keeping the guys he wants . . . hopefully it won't include the Human Glacier.
- John Jaeckel

if q is making the calls does stan report to him. when did q become the head of talent evaluation. this whole organization structure seems fragmented or non existent. is q now the tallon gm stan is not capable of being and how does this possibly succeed?

it sure looks to me the hawks are going backwards

I didn't hear him talk about it but...

If I had a magic wand that's who the Hawks would sign...Parise. In many ways just what they need....A skilled player who forechecks with reckless abandon.

The more I think about it, not saying in a heartbeat, but if the hawks can get the right return, they should trade Kane.

Not only for the off ice antics, locker room distractions, and lack of physical play from him, but this recurring issues sounds the alarm the most to me in the department of lack of drive or off ice work ethic to improve himself as a player. Guys like Kruger, Toews, and Seabrook are working themselves like mad men in the offseason to add size, strength, speed, etc.

Then you have Kane. Toews picks up the newspaper on a summer double session workout day and he reads Kane gets busted for a keg party or something.

If im upper management, I read this as a kid not doing his individual effort to contribute improving this team as a whole

- FourFeathers773

i loved partying all night long when i was young and could still work out just as hard as the guy that slept in when i was in my 20's so why do you think kane isnt doing that. he may or may not have an issue with partying but i think he is too young for it to be effecting his off ice preparation

Parise is a stud. My guess is he stays in NJ considering the SC run they are on.... kinda rules out the 'sign with a team where you can win a CUP' angle for the other teams that would recruit him

Brouwer would have helped (a lot) this year and next. Danault may be great some day, but he is likely still at least a year away from contributing and even further from making a major impact. Might be a good move long run, but hurts now. Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, Seabs...all another year older and beat up while we wait or Danault. Wasted year.
- Ogilthorpe2

So the Hawks get to game 7 then out.. Brouwer wasn't the guy who they were missing for a cup run... DEF and Goalie was..

Goalies are like relief pitchers in baseball, weirdos...The good thing is, I'm ok with it, as long as he stops the puck, and not killing people in his free time.

LMAO. Dude is seriously considering quitting for a year and sticking his team with his cap hit. Exactly how is that strength of character?

My friend does a great job of covering the Ice Hogs and he was more impressed with Danault than any player in Rockford this season.

He says that he wouldn't be surprised if Danault could fill in for Bolland in October...He feels he is a definite NHL 3rd line checking center and my buddy is hard to impress. ..

- Al

Agreed.

I got the same impression while watching Danault in Rockford. He could very well replace Bolland someday.

that makes no sense at his age and if he does retire how is the team still responsible for his contract

Of all the options mentioned here, Lucic would be my top pick by a wide, wide margin. The combination of size, skill, and phyiscality is a true rarity, not to mention the age (only a couple months older than Kane). The only real draw-back is his contract, which expires after next season. Although he is an RFA, so that bodes well for a re-signing. If I were Stan and this deal was legitimately on the table, I'd take it without thinking twice. Why is Boston looking to deal him anyway?

Beyond Lucic, my second pick would be Bobby Ryan. His contract extends three more seasons for a somewhat reasonable 5.1 cap hit, and he is a year younger than Getzlaf. Despite the need for a #2 C, Getzlaf scares me. His faceoff performance is below 50%, he's shown some injury issues over the past several seasons, his statistics dropped off precipitously last season, and his contract expires to unrestricted free agency after this upcoming season, where I'm certain he'll demand upwards of 6M at age 29. That being said, I'd much rather see a package built around Ryan than Getzlaf.

Concerning Nash, it's hard to nay-say. But, he is 29, with a nearly $8M cap hit that extends to the 2017-18 season. I like him a lot as a player, but I'd like him a lot more if he were 25 or 26. While I like long-term contracts, I don't like long-term deals for a massive cap hit, particularly when said player is knocking on 30. It's s sexy proposition, but I think there are some pitfalls most are looking past.

Nothing the Canadiens can offer gets me too terribly excited, unless Price is involved, AND there is a plan in motion to get another top-tier forward (Parise?) .

All in all, I think if the Lucic deal is legitmately out there, take it and run.
