Just heard that the salary cap has been "temporarily" set at $70.3 mil for next year.
How does a temporary cap work? can you sign up to the cap, and not get penalized if it is adjusted during the CBA? |

Any deal centered around Kane must include :
Colombus : Rick Nash. , I like it
Anaheim : Getzlaf or Ryan , much rather have Getzlaf
Montreal : I have no idea, Id say PK Subban but the Hawks need a forward
Islanders : again, dont know what would come close to equal value from the Isle.
Boston: Luic + ,I have no doubt that Boston would want Kane, not sure there are pieces that would match
It would be so delicious to get Nash. - mrpaulish
Don't want Nash (contract), Getzlaf (UFA next season), Ryan (don't see him fitting). Montreal has nothing we need. Islanders would need to give up Tavarez. Boston would need to give up Lucic. |

Is there any audio/video of them actually saying that they don't want to help their own son? I'm not saying what you are saying is untrue but I'm dumbfounded to think they actually feel this way. - scorerstouch
Come on, of course not.
I'm not going to get into what we are talking about here, but it is not at all unusual for families in these situations to be in denial as much as the person affected. And families can be very much part of the problem.
Their pride, their public image, all that is called into question. They also don't want to admit that maybe they were too permissive, made mistakes in raising him. It happens all the time.

OK, you like Kane a lot. But there is a much larger issue at stake here. |

Concerning Nash, it's hard to nay-say. But, he is 29, with a nearly $8M cap hit that extends to the 2017-18 season. I like him a lot as a player, but I'd like him a lot more if he were 25 or 26. While I like long-term contracts, I don't like long-term deals for a massive cap hit, particularly when said player is knocking on 30. It's s sexy proposition, but I think there are some pitfalls most are looking past.
Nothing the Canadiens can offer gets me too terribly excited, unless Price is involved, AND there is a plan in motion to get another top-tier forward (Parise?). - FredoXV
WRONG!! Nash is 27 (will be 28 in a couple of weeks). The way everyone on here talks of him, you would think he was about to turn 40!!! He is in his prime, and in fact will become a free agent at age 33; as far as his contract, he makes a lot, but what do you think Toews and Kane will make their next deals? Easily $7M+!!!! In fact, I think Sharp's new deal (at age 30) is more of an albatross than Nash's will be (due to him being 35 when it is up).
As far as the Canadiens, I would LOVE for the Hawks to get Pacioretty (1 or 2LW) and Plekanec (2C). |

If the Bruins have any first round picks left they should offer sheet Schneider - Return of the Roar
Can you imagine the CBH putting in an offer sheet? This place would go nutts. |

Hawks were 18th in the NHL on PK last year - 78.1%. One goal against every five penalty kills.
Including the majors that's like 38 more power plays, or eight more goals against. - Return of the Roar
NHL.com has them ranked 27th for the PK for the regular season. What am I missing??? |

I understand your point of view. However, we need to get fair value for Kane if any deal is done. Lucic or Tavarez would fill major needs on this team. Also this puts Kane in the East which is better for us as well. This also puts him closer to home.
Lot's of pluses in getting one of Lucic or Tavarez over any deal for Nash, Getzlaf, or Ryan. If we wait till next year we can get Getzlaf as a UFA.
If we can get Staal from Pittsburgh for a package of Bolland +, and swing a deal of Kane for Lucic the CBH would be sitting pretty. No need for Getz unless you can't resign Staal. |

I don't know if you were around back then but...
I had it from a really good source the Hawks wouldn't pass on Beach if he was available...They loved him.
I wrote so a few hours before the Draft. - Al
I really think that draft was a big contributor to the downswing the past two years (and Bowman, of course). If Beach was the stud power forward they envisioned (similar to Evander Kane and at an ELC), they would have maintained some of the size and skill they had to trade away. Maybe Beach "gets it" at some point soon, and turns out to be something more than a wasted pick. All I know was how much I wanted them to draft (a BIG defenseman with skill in) Myers as he was slipping in the '08 draft... |

Sharp actually earned his contract though. Nash has done nothing to warrant any more money then what Sharp got throughout his entire career, yet he gets Crosby/Malkin money.

Seguin or Lucic wouldn't matter really I guess. I think I would prefer Lucic because of his size. Man's a beast. |

Center depth wins championships. Not to discredit Lucic what so ever, but if Boston is asking one or the other, I'm taking Seguin.
Toews/Seguin would be one of the best 1-2 punchs at center in the NHL.

If you land Staal in a seperate deal? You easily get Lucic instead. Less expensive, fills a hole.
Lucic is not a cheap acquisition though. If the defense is still respectable after said moves, the team is in excellent shape. |
