Calm down kings fans. You can brag all you want when the series is over and if they win. Trust me, you don't want to jinx anything. The hockey gods can do some serious damage. Until then give me a break. It's just always the same thing with you guys. Ducks suck, fans are stupid blah blah blah. News channels are filling up with all your stupid fans. It's all the same here in socal. Everyone is just a bandwagon fan and only root for the team when they get this far. People only started caring when they got this far. In a few years if the team gets in a situation like the ducks are in now, the fan base will be eerily similar.

An amazingly ignorant statement.... The Kings fan base has remained active and loyal long before the Mighty Ducks was even a film concept. They have suffered cruel and unusal punishment over the years with this team, but have alway drawn well at the gate, and are always among the top sellers of merchandise. "Bandwagon fans" exist in every market in every sport. It's no secret when a team is hot, new fans are created, and when a team is down the bandwagon lightens. However the core of the Kings fanbase is among the best in the sport (and I have lived and travelled in all corners of N. America to know), and certainly eclipses that of the Ducks.

Even if the team tanks the King faitful deserve this brief moment to gloat.

Please, I can't take this BS anymore! I was bangin' this chick from Vancouver when I was in college 30 years ago and she loved hockey. We used to go down to the Fabulous Forum on the day of the game and buy tickets at the box office for $15 each and sit between the blue lines about 10 rows from the ice. There were, tops 5000 people there and at least half were rooting for the other team. That's your base. These are the pre-Gretzky days. Even after Gretzky left there were plenty of seats available until the Kings started winning again.
Almost every fan in Southern California is a "band wagon" fan. Look at the Clippers before Paul and Griffin...the Angels before Scioscia...hell, even the Dodgers last year before Magic bailed them out. The ONLY team that is immune to it is the Lakers. There's just too many better things to spend money on in Socal than to waste it watching a crappy team.

Well because Ducks fans hate the Kings and other divisional rivals, so they will root for the New Jersey Devils.

Dude total gain of respect. Is it sad I pictured the girl as robin from How I met your Mother? Socal fans are terrible. That includes ducks fans. Living in wisconsin has opened my eyes to so many things. Hell people even get to brewers games hours early to tailgate. Don't even let me start with the packers.. The only reason why I'm really annoyed with kings fans is that they're just terribly obnoxious. Getting a beer poured on me when I was seven at the pond didn't do them any justice. I could care less about the team, but it's the fans that get me. Even being one of five ducks fans at a full shark tank wasn't as bad. Most of you kings fans on this site may not be bandwagon fans, since I'm sure we're all very knowledgeable hockey fans, but most people out there are. Suddenly news channels everywhere are covering these games. That never used to happen on this scale. These things never happened before a month ago. It's just getting really out of hand and annoying.

I get what you're saying, and a lot of it is true.

But even the New York media messes things up. On one of their newscasts recently, they had the New York Islanders playing the Kings for the Stanley Cup. Even had Islanders vs. Kings as a text below the image.

As far as Kings fans go, we've always had a die hard, loyal fanbase. Sure, not as much as we have now, but a fanbase nonetheless. It's like any sport. There are tons of Cubs fans right? If you asked them to name 5 guys on the roster, I'd be willing to bet more than 50% can't. It's more to feel apart of something (loveable losers in the Cubs case). People follow what is hot, not what is not.

I don't mind bandwagon fans because I don't associate with them and it is easy to ream them another ass if needed. They provide more exposure, which = more money, which could = better team.

I don't follow teams based on the amount of bandwagon support there is. You can say all you want about the Lakers being primetime, which they are, but during the Kwame Brown / Smush Parker years, which wasn't too long ago, everyone suddenly jumped off the bandwagon because they played bad. Same thing with the Yankees to some degree when they had their decades of suck.

It just goes with the territory. Some teams can hold onto that lore through good and bad, most can't.

I get your point, but anyone who's watched for a while who isnt a devils fan should be sick of their success in the last 2 decades, I know I am.

seriously, f**k the Devils. they have three cups, still no fans filling the arena, and they were almost solely responsible for every team in the league adopting the trap system prior to the lockout, making hockey half of what it should have been.

rather see another team win, one who hasn't won the cup before, and who is in a large market - that raises interest in the league which is good for all hockey fans.

I think many of you are just wrong. NJ doesn't play anything close to a trapping game and they have been selling out every game in minutes. They even kept the Rangers fans from taking over their building and that almost never happens.

Anyway, I'm only rooting for the Devils. I respect the Kings organization but I'm a Devils and Ducks fan first.

Bandwagon fans is the reason. Let's take a look at attendance this year.

9th LA Kings 100%
22nd NJ Devils 87.4%
24th Los Angeles Ducks of Anaheim 86.4%

The Devils regular season attendance shows that their fans did not show up during that time. Of course teams will sell out in the playoffs. I don't know if that is the point, though.

Even after all the success NJ has had, their fans still don't come in full force.

Well overall, that's just a pretty ignorant and close-minded thing to say... About anything, really.

They have been selling out games cause it's the playoffs... Like it's already been shown, the Devils are 22nd in the league in regular season attendance. And of course they're selling out now, it's the SCF, people from all over are gonna come watch it. There are fans from LA flying out to NJ just to see the games.

As for keeping out the Rangers fans from NJ, that's only because they were trying to get people to not sell tickets to Ranger fans, in an effort to keep it only Devil fans. In other words, nothing to do with Devil's fans filling the games, just Devil management attempting to keep out Ranger fans.

Calm down seriously. Those numbers were posted after steve posted. I hate how all you kings fans are pulling the ignorant card all the time. You guys do exact the same thing most of the time and cry fowl when we say anything like that.

LA sold out in less than 30 seconds apparently.

Also tickets to games 2 5 and 7 (in New Jersey) have been going up on Stubhub for 100-200 bucks after the game 1 loss.

I never said the Kings didn't have great fans. In fact I respect the Kings as a whole. They have tremendous support out here. I do think it's absurd for people to question the loyalty of Devils fans. I have been a New Jersey fan for over 25 years and I'm not the only person that can say that.

I do think the Devils face many challenges competing for a fan base with so many teams in their area.

That does hurt attendance.

Stop Hating bud, Don't pretend like your ducks wouldn't do the same, Ducks fans just claim they won a stanley cup when they know nothing in their history, If you had some sportsmanship for SoCal sports, you would want them to win so WE (Anaheim and LA) can get some respect from the league. The only time the Networks would talk about LA or Anaheim is when they were in the finals.

I wouldn't root for the Ducks until they got to the Finals. Once there, I won't say I'd be actively rooting for them, that would be wrong on so many levels, but I will say I'd want them to win, give the So Cal hockey scene some exposure. I won't jump up and down if they won the Cup, I may even throw up in my mouth a little, but I'd be happy for them and So Cal, just as I was when the Ducks won.

Truth be told, both the Kings and Ducks have bandwagon fans and you can't deny that. END OF STORY! That said, I'm pulling for the Kings simply because I wanna see Brodeur shed a tear like Jiggy did back in '03. I still remember to this day looking in dismay at Giguere's reaction as Buttman handed him that conn smythe trophy. I could just see the pain written all over his face, it was heart wrenching and really tough to watch. BUT, I am so glad that Giguere was finally able to lift the cup over his head and deservedly so

Exactly. For this reason alone, as a Ducks fan I root for the Kings to avenge our '03 loss. And doing against Brodeur makes it sweeter, btw love the LA Marty chant.
