Not that any of them are bad players, but Pittsburgh cant afford to take chances on unknown commodities if they trade Staal (which until the new CBA is ratified nobody has a clue how it will play out). Pittsburgh regardless of their round 1 follies this year are still a threat to win it all. They cant lose big piece like Staal and take on draft picks and younger unknowns. - Gunner Staal
I completely agree Gunner but it seems like they are at least entertaining the idea of moving him. If you don't want draft picks then you are going to have to take on guys that are relative unknowns because it wouldn't make any sense to move him for a guy with the same experience and contract.
what do we even have that you would want..... a winger? stafford, ennis, vanek.... i don't see buffalo and pitt making good trade partners for that reason.. unless it is some low level move that doesn't matter.

What everyone misses with this guy is that in a way you'd be buying low in that he's been playing 3rd line minutes. He is a younger, faster, more physical version of Drury. You notice this guy every time he plays.
Any trade would have to involve real players and not the garbage we want to get rid of. Staff and Roy? Laughable. They'd want guys like Hodgson or Foligno of McNab. If I am Pittsburgh I wouldn't move this guy. - Slump Buster
He's avg almost 20min per game the last 5 seasons.

The only people entertaining a trade right now are fans. Shero has consistently said he wants to sign Staal long term.

I realize Staal is the better player, by far. But you implied his 6 goals in the playoffs this year make him a good player, I'm just reminding people that 1 good playoff run doesnt make you a good player. - Rally_Shots
The one good playoff run doesn't apply to Jordan Staal. He has been excellent every post season because he doesn't need the goals to be dominating force on the ice.
He scored the biggest goal of the Penguins 2009 Cup run. Game 4 down 2-1 with Detroit on the PP about to make it 3-1 and put the game out of reach given how awesomely dominate Detroit was at shutting things down in both the 2008 and 2009 Final.
