Stastny is a playmaker not a goal scorer.
Do you watch Colorado games? They don't play a very up tempo game so I'd argue that the coach changed the style of play from 09/10. 10/11 and 11/12 is a completely different style.
What other players produced with those wingers? I'm sorry but have you looked at the wingers he's been paired with? They are far below what we have here.
Joe Sakic produced there late in his career but even he had better wingers. Brunette and Hedjuk when they weren't on the decline. Players like Sakic don't grow on trees. Stastny has played with Svatos, Wolski, Jones, Stewart, Tucker, McGinn, Smyth, Mueller, and Downie.
Briere was waived, left for dead, had a good season, and then was moved for Gratton because they thought so highly of him. He didn't have 90pt player written all over him when they traded for him. Lets be honest we got lucky with Briere.
Like it or not Stastny is an option for this team.

Then he HAS to be on the ice in the vital parts of the game and I have to be able to DEPEND on him to score
Plus we have to give up a ton to get him?
It just doesn't make sense to me
I'd much rather have a guy like pavelski...
He may not have 80point potential (although I don't think stastny will get back to that anyways)... But he scores big goals and costs almost 3mil less!!!
I'm not saying pavelski is available
But I'd much rather trade for a guy like that,
Then an OVERPRICED "#1" who isn't really a #1 at all...
We already have Derek Roy,
Why trade all the assets it'll take to get a player who essentially produces the same?
And costs more? A lot more?
Adding additional bad contracts (even if we have cap room) is just a terrible idea... ESP when we have so many to begin with
And what I really want us to do is go get Galchenyuk,
So then where does Stastny, Ennis, Hodgson & Galchenyuk all fit in?
I guess we could move ennis back to the wing,
But I like him at center.... ESP considering how well that line played... I don't want that touched at all
