Same thing was said about Briere.
Also look at the talent on the team in 10/11 and 11/12. The wingers for the most part are well below avg.

- dadeadhead

You are 1000% wrong
The year briere was traded, he was on pace for 53pts w Phoenix...
HARDLY a drop off form his breakout 60point season from the year BEFORE

I can argue that Stastny's #s have declined since his rookie season...
5years ago!
Even though he did have that ONE year where he had 59assists,
He went from a rookie who scored 28goals, to a guy who barely tops 20...

Is he a bad player... NO
Is he a "#1" center worth 6.7mil per... HELL NO

And your argument that he has no one around him doesn't hold up IMO
There have been other guys on that team that have been able to produce with the same wingers stastny has had
Plus, he wouldn't exactly be playing with 100pount wingers here
AND
Your premise is flawed from the get-go IMO...
Because a "#1" should make the guys around him better...
Not NEED better guys around HIM to be productive

That's the dream, right?
We'd prob have to give something in addition to get someone to take on his salary...
Not to mention I'm sure the return would be next to nothing...
But I'm ok with that just to get his # off our books...

I said it then, and I'll say it again...
It made absolutely NO SENSE to me to give a WINGER that deal just HOPING that he could become a center...

Ugh, gotta figure some way to get him outta here

I don't even know where to begin.

Stastny is a playmaker not a goal scorer.

Do you watch Colorado games? They don't play a very up tempo game so I'd argue that the coach changed the style of play from 09/10. 10/11 and 11/12 is a completely different style.

What other players produced with those wingers? I'm sorry but have you looked at the wingers he's been paired with? They are far below what we have here.

Joe Sakic produced there late in his career but even he had better wingers. Brunette and Hedjuk when they weren't on the decline. Players like Sakic don't grow on trees. Stastny has played with Svatos, Wolski, Jones, Stewart, Tucker, McGinn, Smyth, Mueller, and Downie.

Briere was waived, left for dead, had a good season, and then was moved for Gratton because they thought so highly of him. He didn't have 90pt player written all over him when they traded for him. Lets be honest we got lucky with Briere.

Like it or not Stastny is an option for this team.

According to many Avs fans(that I've spoken with), everything including the kitchen sink.

Realistically, our second 1st, Sekera, and defensive prospect. More would need to be added on both sides.

Do I want them to trade for Stastny? Meh, It wouldn't upset me if they did or didn't really.

If they keep the Nashville 1st rd pick I really want them to take Samuelsson. IMO the kid has stud written all over him.

If Galchenyuk is still there at #4, Darcy had better use up his cell minutes to work out a trade with the Islanders.
