I highly doubt it.
The oil kings head coach compared him to Lidstrom though. For that soul reason he will not be in consideration for the head coaching job. |

Well I'm not going to get to excited on 60g.
But it's an interesting topic. Do you take a 35-50goal sniper or a 20-40 power forward. Problem with the power forward is he can't stay healthy either.
I think you take which ever guy you have and hope it all works out for you. - Lahey

Its not a slight to say a player isnt as good as lidstrom.
Hes one of the top few defencemen that ever lived.
I just dont see robinson in that truly elite, dominant class.
Im not even sure he was the best dman on his own team for some of those dominant hab years... let alone their best player.
Dont get me wrong, Robinson was a great player. Big, mobile, intelligent.. But lidstrom is in another class imo. The best of his generation. Might have been the best player at his position every year for 15 seasons.
Not stoked on the age argument either. I dont need to be 50 to think that lidstrom might only be eclipsed by bobby orr.
Also,
Gretzky was the greatest player that ever lived. That doesnt neccasarily mean he was the best judge of talent though.
See phoenix coyotes under his tenure. And yes, he absolutely had say in player acquisitions/drafting.
Lets not turn this into a gretz debate though.
Im only saying lidstrom might be the greatest dman ever.
And least on the very shortlist. Robinson is not on that list imo. - hugefemale dog77
Robinson was a very dominant Dman in both ends of the rink. He produced offensively and shut down the other team night in night out. He was a major component to those powerhouse Mtl teams in the late 70s. He was also a 2 time Norris winner when the likes of Bourque, Potvin and Orr were Norris Trophy mainstays. He was, like Lidstrom, a Conn SMythe winner.
What I am saying is that it is not a stretch to include Robinson in a conversation with Lidstrom as some of the best Dmen ever.
Gretz played against both...and while both were in their prime...he has first hand experience on how good the two were. He likens them together.
So imo your imo is off base because you did not get to know how good Robinson is.
For what it is worth the bleacher report has a 10 best Dmen ever list...Robinson is 8 and Lidstrom is 3. Orr is 1st obviously. Chelios, Eddie Shore, Potvin and Bourque are between Lidstrom and Robinson. pretty elite company. |

It's already that way with Eberle and Hall. |

Hey Rich, I am pretty sure I saw somewhere (OilersNation, Oilogosphere) that Crawford is NOT on the short list. Good thing too.. Wouldn't want him.
They should be looking at one of the three AHL coaches and that's it. All good young guys which is exactly what a young team needs. I still say that the Barons coach is the best option.... |

They didn't include Paul Coffey in that list or did I miss it? Sorry.. Coffey was second only to Bourque in points and he was only 48 points behind and played 200 fewer games.. clearly if games were equal Coffey gets more points.
Those guys are good but I could easily put Coffey ahead of a number of those guys and he has more cups than a large amount of those guys, including Bourque.
Dumb asses

I understand that but he also said he only wants a head coaching job and would only look at an assistant job if the deal was unbelievable. If he can say that about an assistants job, he'd be a dumb ass not to take the Oilers HC job if it was offered to him... more prestige, chance to grow yourself more, work with higher end talent, and lets not forget, more cash. |

You formatting was horrible....
Coffey was #9. Coffey was an outstanding Offensive Dman, but Bourque was a better all around Dman.
Cups, while a nice distinction, is a team trophy. Winning the Conn Smythe is a larger accomplishment, which makes it worth more. Norris is the ultimate award for Dmen.
Coffey won 3 Norris, all based on how much he scored. he took the Offensive Dman term to a whole new level.
BUT...
When looking at the whole picture Coffey did have a lack-luster defensive side to his game, thus he drops in ranking. So I have no problem with his ranking. |

I think the A Coach job would have to be a ridiculous payout to get him, I thought I read that he said he had done that but would rather be Head and he likes where he is in his coaching career, and he gets to develop more in it.
So no, I do not see him taking the job. |
