50 point centers don't get 7 million dollars a year.

correct....but he has loaded up on a bunch of worthless americans

tyler biggs as a 1st round pick is a complete and utter joke. i go to school at miami university and went to every home game......he was pretty bad

- HAMgerber

i want to point out as the remaining couple of guys left to pick, he was the tallest and biggest guy there left to acquire.

Yeah, but he's truculent!

Biggs is going to play in the OHL next season, which is where he should have been this season. Hopefully he improves. But I wouldn't bet on it.

- Unholy_Goalie

Come on. It's not like Burke went way off the board with that pick. We do need some size up front.

It's obvious that he has had issues in the playoffs, and it looks like that is from the added pressure. But the debate if Luongo himself actually believes that he can't handle a pressure filled city is an interesting one. He did win Olympic Gold. And to be fair he hasn't been awful all the time in the playoffs. I just can't imagine him thinking that he wouldn't be able to handle Toronto, even though I don't personally believe he could necessarily handle Toronto.
- dionschenn

Canada won gold in spite of Luongo, not because of him. He let in some really weak goals along the way. I remember one in particular against Slovakia that almost had them launch a comeback.

If Luongo thinks he can handle the Toronto pressure, he's way in over his head. He has no idea what he's in for if he thinks Vancouver is bad.

complete lack of motivation on defense....doesnt hustle....doesnt backcheck for sh*t

only positive i can see from him was that he was pretty solid on the powerplay

very patient with the puck...pretty composed for a freshman player

but honestly i just dont ever see him being worth a 1st rounder...i saw him A LOT

Funny how things can change.

Staal getting 7 mill on the open market is easy considering the way things have been going.

They traded a 2nd round pick to trade up and get a player who wasn't worth it. That 2nd round pick by the way was used to draft a pretty good goalie named Gibson.

They did pass on Namestnikov though, who looked great for the Knights in the Memorial Cup.

Biggs will benefit from playing in the OHL but he's a pretty big project. Probably not going to be anything more than a big 3rd liner unless he can figure out a way to start scoring.

Free agency is thin these days. There would be quite the bidding war but 7 million is definitely stretching it a bit.

Except the part where they renegotiate the CBA and potentially roll back player salaries as well as their total percentage which is at a very high 57%. The "way things have been going" is what they want to change.

Time will tell. Definitely hasn't been nearly long enough to start calling out Burke for that pick. And as I said, its not like he was some guy who was expected to go much later but Burke took him early. He went in the range that most scouts had him.

Wasn't worth trading up for. They could have taken Namestnikov (very good two-way center) at 25th and Percy at 30th plus used the 2nd rounder on Gibson (need a good young goalie in the system).

at least neil fights his own fights....instead of just jaw wagging and flopping around like a wounded sea lion.
Lapierre is an absolute clown.

- Barx

Lappy had 7 fights this year. He's not the best fighter, but he's at least standing up for himself, and teammates. He's actually cut a lot of the garbage out of his game.

Great bottom 6 player.

not true. he played on the second line a ton and was out there for every powerplay...check out his coach's (enrico blasi) press release when asked about him dipping out and heading for the ohl

idk...he was our #1 recruit and was a complete stud (so i had heard before he came to miami)

and its not the end of the world trust me im not trying to troll here at all....im just going off what i saw

and id like to say im a knowledgeable hockey fan...ive had season tickets for the sabres since i was like 6 and i go to all the games

Maybe. Maybe not, depend how desperate a gm is for a young center like Staal. And how many players like him actually hit the market to begin with. Bidding war could certainly drive his price.

ahhh understand.

probably dislike kesler the most. but lapierre, burrows, bieksa.. even edler.. find pretty easy to not like all of em. luongo.. higgins.. both sedins. way to many d-bags on one team.

- joel878

How can anyone hate Edler (other than the fact that he's a Canuck)? He's one of the most humble and unassuming players in the league.

alright enough about biggs.....

who do you guys want at 5? sounds like a lot of you want grigor or galy

some blogger on our website (who is pretty reliable...always in on deals/ signings pretty early...sorta like the vancouver fan) said the sabres have a deal on the table with the islanders for the 4th pick if galy is still there

we would send our 1st (12th overall) and any of pysyk-mcnabb-or Lerome gauthier leduc plus i believe our second rounder

idk if i would do it
