How about i put it in more simpler terms for you, Jordan Staal is not being traded, he will be resigned to approx 5-5.5 mill. Crosby on the other hand might be taking a pay cut for his condition.
- Mapleleafs_91

Crosby will get 10

Staal could get more than that if he hits the market.

Luongo can't handle the pressure of Vancouver but he's going to waive his NTC to withstand the pressure of Toronto?

Burke hates cap circumventing contracts but he's going to acquire Luongo?

The Leafs should not be taking Canuck garbage. A 33 year old with a 10 year contract with middle of the pack stats despite playing for the President Trophy winners is not the way to go.

- Unholy_Goalie

I don't think Luongo believes that he can't handle the pressure of Vancouver regardless if its true or not. I agree that this wouldn't really be a Burke move at all but I really just don't know anymore. I hope we don't get him, although it would be exciting at first. But honestly who knows with Burke anymore. He may make a move like this just so we can get into the playoffs and save his ass.

I agree with you 100% on this, but i really believe he is coming to Toronto. I dont like it but i will get use to it. We havent had a decent goalie in a while. Nor does kipper or tim thomas make sense since they are even older. I would laugh if we got domenic hasek, now that would be something!

Offensively, he's not a 1st line center unless the team is going to be ultra defensive. But defensively, this guy is what you need to win a Cup. He's proven that. He has averaged 20 minutes a game every year he has been in the NHL. He's definitely worth a lot, especially to the Penguins. They most likely aren't going to trade him but if they do, it won't come cheap. I think people forget he was drafted 2nd overall, how young he is and how many intangibles he brings to his team.
- Unholy_Goalie

ehhh youre right when you put it that way

but to say that the guy is worth a 1st, a stud prospect+ a roster player.....thats when i start to think that its a little iffy

Pittsburgh knows they have a winning formula and that Staal is a part of it. When that team is healthy and working together, they're unstoppable. Why would they trade Staal for anything less than that?

Its not about saving his ass or his job, its about giving the fans what they want, PLAYOFFS. Majority of fans want playoffs, then there is the small portion with a head on their shoulder knowing that we need to fully rebuild, but at this point in time... is a rebuild really necessary? we draft in the 1st round a top five pick. Justin schultz to Toronto is almost a no brainer since gardiner is here. Leaving franson or gunnerson expendable to acquire another powerforward like for say chris stewart or some package to acquire some good forwards.

If teams get into a bidding war with Staal, he could get 6-7 million.

If Luongo believes he can handle Toronto after getting wrecked in Vancouver, he's lying to himself because he can't. If Luongo wants to succeed in his remaining years, he'll stay the hell away from pressure if at all possible. Toronto is the epicenter of hockey pressure, rivaled only by his hometown Habs.

Acquiring Luongo would be among the dumbest things Burke could possibly do. A 33 year old goalie with a 10 year contract? A total desperation move to save his ass and throwing the future of this team out the window.

i actually liked connolly this year, he did NOT get hurt ALOT and i was actually proud of that but for 4.5 mill, he was not worth it. Maybe 3 max.

Good for Connolly. Unfortunately, their career high point totals are similar. Offense is what gets the pay day in the UFA market and Staal doesn't score enough to get 7+ million a year. It would take an extremely desperate GM to give a player with a career high of 50 points a 7 million dollar deal.

Yup... if Staal wants to cash in, he certainly can.

Pitts is gonna be in a bind with the cap soon, 40 mill committed to 10 players for 2013-2014 without Crosby or Staal on the books....

Its not to save his ass, he doesnt care about his job, he can sign anywhere he wants. He is a good GM.

1) Unloaded crap for Dion Phaneuf and Keith Aulie, (we needed defence at the time)

2) Traded Beauchemin for Gardiner and Lupul (one hell of a deal)

3) Traded Kablere for Colborne and that draft pick (good deal)

4) The phil kessel deal will always be talked about, but look at kessel, 84 pts without a centerman, thats incredible. Do you understand the return we could get for him? Try even more than 2 firsts and a 2nd rounder.

5) If he signs justin schultz thats another +

6) Traded brett lebda and slaney for franson and lombardi, we gained a good defender but a average overpaid player.

7) Traded keith aulie for carter ashton(first round draft guy) EDIT

8) Traded 2nd rounder for Liles to replace kaberle and a good veteran presence despite his injury this year, had a good run until he got hurt.
Burke is good at making trades but not signing players.

He does care about saving his ass and getting an extension in Toronto. He's said it many times, he wants to stay here at all costs. Lately, he hasn't been a good GM. In fact, he's failed at every turn. And nobody is going to pay a failure the way the Leafs do. He definitely wants to save his ass.

It's obvious that he has had issues in the playoffs, and it looks like that is from the added pressure. But the debate if Luongo himself actually believes that he can't handle a pressure filled city is an interesting one. He did win Olympic Gold. And to be fair he hasn't been awful all the time in the playoffs. I just can't imagine him thinking that he wouldn't be able to handle Toronto, even though I don't personally believe he could necessarily handle Toronto.

Yeah, but he's truculent!

Biggs is going to play in the OHL next season, which is where he should have been this season. Hopefully he improves. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Have you seen where the team finished in the standings or are you going to keep listing "moves" that haven't had any results yet?
