You don't need to be Nostradamus to see that this team doesn't have the right players to win a Cup. Just take a quick look around the league with the blue and white glasses removed and you'll figure it out really quick.
- Unholy_Goalie

Of course not, we obviously don't RIGHT NOW, but doing what you're saying will not to do it either. Nobody is saying we have a contender on our hands waiting to break out. We know the team needs lots of work, but it's too late for a total rebuild right now. We can still build with what we have now and win if done properly. You can't say we won't win with Kessel, Lupul and Phaneuf at the helm when they haven't been given the oppoortunity to really fail yet, without a great supporting cast.

LOL Please don't take any stock in that.........unless one of them gets food poisoning. Then there might be something to talk about. Other than that, it's routine.

I worry that Dark Knight Rises is going be a major letdown after Part 2...and I kind of think some of Nolan's stuff in Batman and Inception and the (frank)ing backwards one with the amnesia are overrated and boring...I loved Dark Knight but I can see this next one being some ridiculous, ponderous overcomplicated abortion...I really hope I'm wrong...Avengers I was never really into as comic book reader so I didn't have a lot of expectations, but it blew my mind
- Zezel

Inception was much better the 2nd time around, but it was overhyped to the max. The Dark Knight is probably my personal favourite movie of all time, so this next one will likely be a let down, but I'm such a geek for batman I think I'll still like it.

I've heard only good things about the Avengers, but it saddens me that spiderman isn't there.

“We’re leaning towards going back into the draft." -- Blades winger Josh Nicholls. The Maple Leafs must sign the 2010 7th-rder by Friday.

I hope so, he's developed pretty well.

Yes it will. It allows the Leafs to recover what it pissed away to get Kessel. It also allows the Leafs to tank harder next year.

Nobody is saying we have a contender on our hands waiting to break out. We know the team needs lots of work, but it's too late for a total rebuild right now.

Too late for a rebuild? Uh nope. Not a contender? I know that. That's why we need to rebuild properly so we can change that.

We can still build with what we have now and win if done properly. You can't say we won't win with Kessel, Lupul and Phaneuf at the helm when they haven't been given the oppoortunity to really fail yet, without a great supporting cast.

Sorry but you must have forgot to look around the league and realize that Kessel, Lupul and Phaneuf is a weak core to be a contender.

I agree with this, we are no where near ready to compete for a cup, lets worry if Kessel is a good enough offensive leader to win it all after we at least become a playoff team. who knows, maybe 5 years from now kessel wil be like Mogilny was for the devils and someone else will be our Arnott.

Actually what you just described is exactly what the Leafs did by pissing away two 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel. Time to undo the mistake.
- Unholy_Goalie

well burkie can't be half as bad as you believe, or you wouldn't suggest there's actually a market out there to get the same return for kessel back.. would you?

or is it just that you have no idea what you're talking about again?

Pissing away??? Did Burke overpay? Yes. In hindsight, was it a move that should have been made? No. But at the time, he was dealing 3 unknown, unproven commodities for one that was. And one that HAS WORKED OUT mind you. And how do you know, with 100% certainty, that we would have finished that low without Kessel? We may have had another 10th or 11th place finish. Chemistry may have been better. You don't know because you can't predict what COULD have happened.

That doesn't make very much sense, if you argue that Kessel was a positive, then removing him, should realistically make the team worse. It's pretty unlikely that the leafs would've done better without him

Lupul is a weak link, Kessel is a a great no2 on a contending team, and Phaneuf - well I'm not the biggest fan, but I'll wait for final judgement... this 'core group' is quite a mess

Burke screwed up. Sugar coat it all you like. He can undo the mistake by trading Kessel and rebuild the way he should have from day one.

I actually don't mind them moving up.....and have actually proposed a few ideas to that affect which ideally make sense to the other teams involved. I would absolutely to get Galchenyuk, but he won't be there at #5, unless Burke maybe makes some smaller side deals to unsure he's there. But I don't see that happening either. I think our only hope at #5 for a great centreman is Grigorenko possibly slipping to us.

I'm fairly certain Grigs will be available at 5, but whether he's great... well that's a whole other discussion. I would take Murray if he was still available at 5 (don't see it happening, but hey), atleast that would let us move a few of our young D for young forwards
