While I agree Kessel isn't the 'character' cups are won around, the type of team renewal you seek is atleast 10 years away I would say. Unless a new GM comes in and rebuilds the core - again, we'll have to wait for this young team to pan out and age, so we can destroy and rebuild again. Kessel as the face of the Leafs forward group will not win a cup, but who knows what happens over the next few years.

They have a great opportunity to continue the rebuild. Going with these guys as the core players will only land them in the muddy waters of mediocrity. They'll make the playoffs and get their asses kicked. Better to figure that out now and start doing things right today than wait five or six years and start over again.

He isn't the solution either. And acquiring a scoring winger is much easier to do when the time is right. Problem is, the Leafs have no clue when the time is right and wasted valuable assets to get the wrong player at the wrong time.
