I would imagine the current players are not as well but I don't think its such a stretch of the imagination to say that there are those that would rather not. I mean supposedly the KHL pays more money and from time to time attracts players over there however I do read that the conditions are big reason why players haven't conducted a mass exodus over there either.

Poor access to health care for their families. No place to shop for everyday items outside of the largest cities, extremely hard to travel to some of those cities. Difficulty in locating appropriate housing. And the potential for kidnapping and murder for hire of professional athletes and their families. Not something U.S. athletes have had to deal with in any city.

yeah, just 2 miles further out. It's not like they have a five hour commute to the Joe from their posh suburbs. There isn't a big city in the U.S. that doesn't have parts that look like war zones. There isn't a big city that doesn't have its problems. But there are plenty of posh places to live within a reasonable commute to pretty much any NHL arena. Saying Detroit is the worst is ignoring the location of the Staples Center in L.A. or the Rock in Newark, or the United Center (the only place I've felt like I made a mistake taking public transit to the game because the walk from the el was scary...now the bus takes you right to the door, so that's okay).
- bodiva88

Detroit is the most dangerous city in the United states, I don't see how that wouldn't cross someone's mind when considering living in and around the city. WOW what a new concept

Who's going to teach him up? The forwards were brutal all season long this year in their own end. You would think adjustments would be made during the year but I didnt see much improvement.

it actually is different from other major cities as in it is one of the worst places to live http://www.dailyfinance.c.../10-worst-places-to-live/ and most dangerous city.

As far as players wanting to play in Detroit I have no doubt they'd want to but as for living there I still think there's some that would have their hesitance.

No body lives "in" Detroit. The Suburbs are great place to live. And, the violence doesn't leave the city, most/all of it is contained.

Joe - I apologize for beating a topic to death. Since I am the only doing so, I will try to keep my coomments relevant to the topics of the Flyers and related hockey issues.

I believe in second chances, and I believe that as a person I can improve. My hope is that you notice the improvement over time and we can all be winners.

Just watching LA and how they support the puck and the defenseman, and the coverages they have. Forwards actually come back deep into the defensive zone to get an outlet pass from the defenseman. It's nice to watch.

Do you see the Flyers making that adjustment? I agree that I would love to see the forwards help out more but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I didn't see the players making that adjustment, no. The Kings were using a simple D to D Center breakout to avoid the Devils forecheck along the wall. Then the Devils started taking away the middle. It was a good game last night. I enjoyed it.

I understand that, but take this into consideration. I live in a city that has a great suburb that I live in, however first chance I get, I'm moving because the bad parts, are getting worse and too close to home. Being that is my personal preference/situation, I don't think it's that far-fetched for someone of better financial means to get away/avoid beaten down areas in close proximity of where they live.

I have been to Detroit. Think about Philly, NY, Boston, DC... it is easy to escape these places if you dont want to live in the city. And yes, you can do the same in Detroit. But while your escaping Philly, your heading to the Jersey shore... NY is the same, or the mountains of PA and NY. Boston has the local skiinf plus near-by beaches... DC has soo much I wont even begin to try and talk about it. Detroit is smack in the middle of the country. The City is broke, the citizens are largely unemployeed. The night life is... eh at best. Of course these things come into mind when a player is making a decision of where to play. Especially for a country boy like Suter.

I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. Michigan is a great place, Detroit city suxs. But, Detroit is the best thing for Michigan - It keeps (scares) people away.

No real mountains or no ocean, but they do have beaches - tons of them actually. Besides the obvious huge lakes, they have tons of smaller lakes - most with multi-million dollar homes on them. Lakes; boating, skiing, fishing, ice skating (in the winter). etc... Actually, one of the craziest sports I've ever seen was on a frozen lake by my house where they raced motor-cross bikes with spiked wheels.

Besides the lakes, Michigan has more golf courses per capita then any other state (Michigan - 971 courses; pop. ~ 9 million). And, Michigan is very under developed outside of the Detroit area. If you like hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling. etc... its a great place. Not to mention, if the player is Canadian... Canada is just a tunnel away.

I get what you are saying, but Detroit isn't getting worse. It can't - it's done. The downtown area is burned out. Besides, with the type of money the players are making and the area that they'll be buying a home... They don't have to worry about bad parts getting close - unless their is a zombie apocalypse. And, with the type of money these guys make - they could live in Canadian - Windsor.

ps. I think it's funny that most Flyers don't live in Philly or even PA... most live in NJ.

I just took a little Google maps walk around the stadium area...looks pretty nice. I'm guessing the practice facility is in the burbs anyway. The Red Wing are historically a great team and it's Hockey Town USA...I think most players would want to play for the Red Wings.

I think they like to live close to the practice facility.
