Who knows what Kane is thinking? Maybe he is tired of Hawks management (which seems to be worse these days) Yes he loves the city and fans. But if several teammates are turning on him and management is micro managing all his moves maybe he feels his value has gone down in the organization. This could be his way of asking to be traded without asking for a trade.

And if that's the case what you stated above (and I doubt it) Kane should be shipped immediately and kicked in the rear on the way out the door.

Kane threw a HUGE house party here 2 days ago.

Just thought I'd tell everyone who says it was a one time thing.

1) If someone told you repeatedly to not do the above or there would be consequences, could you stop? And if you couldn't, would that mean you have a problem?

2) There's evidence he's ummm partied during the season. I have been told there was at least one big flare-up with a teammate during 2010-11 over his preparation for the season, practices and games.

- John Jaeckel

1) If it was my off time and my work told me I couldn't do it I would remind them to mind their own damn business. No it's not a problem because the company doesn't own him on his own time.

2) I have rarely seen him not give his all on the ice. His production was just as good as Toews in the playoffs (which isn't saying much) and was 2nd behind Hossa in the regular season. Unless he's pulling a Radulov when it matters then I don't see how he's screwing up.

1) Not to be disagreeable, but hasn't the cat always been out of the bag with Kane? The Vancouver photos, the Buffalo cabby incident, etc. And that is only what the public knows about. The reality is that I'm sure around the NHL the GMs and players know far worse about players than we'll ever know.

I guess I look at it this way: 2) despite all of Kane's off ice faults, he remains one of the most well-known and marketable young players in the NHL. 3) For a number of franchises, I'm looking at you Columbus, trading for a young, marketable, American NHL player should be an absolute boon for the ticket gate.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Jahns' article, while very well written and interesting, doesn't push the likelihood that Kane is traded beyond 50/50 IMO. I just don't think it is more likely that he is traded than not traded. 4) My opinion is mainly still based on the leadership team of the Hawks, and not whether it might be time to sell high on the Patrick Kane era.

- QStache

It's OK, you make some good points, but some also I can't agree with.

1) When before has a major Chicago daily quoted a team source as saying he has a problem and might need rehab. THAT is the cat out ofthe bag, my friend. Upt til now there has always beenthis boys will be boys/he's just a fun-lving kid argument that could be made. Not so much (at all) anymore.

2) You don't think this will affect his marketability— specifically just the Madison photos, especially after the cab thing and Vancouver and . . . ?

3) Agreed. But that will not last if there's more stuff down the line

4) They might not have many smart hockey minds (debatable), but Rocky and McD are smart business guys.

Point blank: If Kane isn't traded this offseason this is a make or break season for him.

Reports today that the Hawks want him to get help are indicators of a much larger issue (that the Hawks know about and the general public doesn't). As it states (and I've argued) much more than just a 48-hour window in Madison. As I argued a few weeks back - the fact he wasn't playing for Team USA raised red flags (as the Sun Times article speaks about).

Save me the "Oh he's just a young kid" argument.. please.

Let's hope the Oduya signing is a precursor for some larger trades/free agent deal. A roster mix up is 100% needed.

Alright Mr.Deadspin is back!! It was nice not having you around for a while Still promoting the kane choked a girl stuff? And all that other garbage that when looked into turned out to be nothing much? Are you the main editor there or something?

I am not defending Kane any bit,but this could go all Josh Hamilton on the Hawks if they give up on him right now...If they can get a fair deal, trade him,if not, work with the kid on his problems, and try and help him

1) So you're a $6.3 million a year pro hockey player, with millions invested in your image by your team and many advertisers (Chicago Chevy dealers, Discover Card, Ferrara Pan)? Welcome to the blog!

2) Hawk fans have seen it, a lot in 2010-11, less so this past year

Ummm:

1) I never said he choked a girl
2) The Madison photos were 100% Kane - The Hawks are obviously very concerned about it. Sadly, as a fan, you aren't.

I'm usually always here.. enjoy the blog. But just because I think that Kane has issues that he seemingly doesn't care about fixing doesn't make me the "editor" as you so eloquently posted.

I don't know if this is true. It might not be. But if it is, even if he sat there and didn't touch a drop of alcohol (hard to believe), what does it say about his his judgement and accountability? And why is there any debate?

Staal & 3rd for Bolland and Saad? You'd be taking on about a half million more in salary. You get your 2nd line center and the best player in the deal. Only problem is Staal only has 1 year remaining that's why we throw in the 3rd. I know it's off the Kane topic and I considered a swap but we would be taking back salary and I don't think the Pens want to do that at this point.

The problem is, as many have stated before, this IS NOT an isolated incident. Leaving out the Buffalo cab incident and Vancouver debacle, there are MANY bars in Chicago that will not have Kane as their guest any more.

+1

anyone who spends even a little bit of time in river north between the hours of 11 PM and 3 AM knows that PK is persona non grata at a lot of places.

So here's the acid test for you: if PK was your kid, would you let him behave like this?

yeah, me neither.

makes you wonder about a lot of things....

Apparently all this talk about aquiring players to help the team is a moot point. What we really need is a babysitter for Patrick Kane.

I meant are you an editor at deadspin meh..you have freedom of speech just like me...I even agree with what you post sometimes, but promoting everything in that garbage article at deadspin being true(in my opinion it seemed like u bought every word they wrote, along with the anonymous comments there about him) was bad...he was there he got blitzed big time i agree...the other b.s.posted there i do not agree with...and before you ship him off and kick him in his ass on his way out give him a pat on the back for the Cup winning goal

So 29 Gm's should hire photographers to follow kane?

They don't have to: there's millions out there waiting to take phone-photos of celebrities behaving badly.

Kane is 23 not a kid out of high school. Enough with the "he does what every American male does" You don't see anyone else acting like a fool and you can guarantee they are all having fun, too.

I think Perry and Ryan have both played center (correct me if I'm wrong), and I may or may not be wrong in thinking that the idea of trading Getz and putting one of them to Center had been thought/bandied about by management there.
- anawrocki

Perry no but Ryan has played there and performed miserably because he is not a center. Anaheim is extremely thin down the middle especially with a loss of getzlaf.

Talent wise it is a good move but anaheim would struggle mightily.

But think of the marketing potential for the team! They could make it like a contest--win a chance to keep PK out of trouble--that has McD all over it!

Yes, doubtful, no.

Kane is tailor made for NYR. Toronto needs centers more than wings, I don't see them dealing with the Sharks

- John Jaeckel

Rangers make a ton of sense. They desperately need another big time scorer. The are likely going to try to find a taker for Brandon Dubinsky who had a terrible year and clashed with Torts. They have a handful of good young D-men. I don't see them dealing McDunough. Girardi fits their need for a bigger physical D-man. Not sure they would do Girardi, Dubinsky and maybe Krieder or Hagelin for Kane and Hammer.

The story says the Hawks have asked the family for help in trying to get Patrick help and they have refused.

Great questions, 114!

Hard to say on Q. I will say this: if Q feels Kane is a distraction or a problem in the dressing room and there is an acceptable offer on the table, he's gone. Conversely, I'm not sure Q has enough juice to save him if everyone else in the brass has had enough—especially not Rocky.

Remember, anyone arguing too hard for Kane right now is staking their own reputation (and maybe their job) on him straightening up from here on out.

As for 19 and 7, funny you should ask. I have seen a little bit of evidence and heard more that suggests both are very dissatisfied with the state of the team and things overall since June 2012. And there is reason to believe both have been at least privately (maybe playfully, mind you) critical of Kane at times, to the best of my knowledge over on-ice things.

These two guys want to win, period. They are warriors. If they can win with Kane, great. If they can win without him, same thing.

- John Jaeckel

Thanks for the response. I totally agree on 19 and 7, absolute warriors. I remember 19's rookie year after a series of tough losses the team had a closed door meeting and when they came out 19 was a new team leader. I believe his quote was they had a bunch of guys who liked to win but not enough that hated losing. Not many are as focused as those two but that's what wins cups and what I think the fans expect this summer, guys letting back to back first round exits sit in their stomachs and turn into dedication for 2012. I love 88 and hope he can step it up but this is a big crossroad for him and the team.

Good one JJ! Don't get me wrong,if the kid needs help, they should try and get some help for him,but anyone saying would you let your 23 year old son behave that way is nuts,or doesn't have kids and doesn't know what it is like to raise them...The thing is you can't force him to do anything,if he get's it through his thick head he will change and become more mature,if he doesn't get it,well then there is nothing you can do,all of the professional help in the world will not help him if he doesn't decide to change his dumbass antics
