1) Who are the agents for SJ's Pavelski & Hjarlmarsson?

2) Isn't there only 500,000 difference in their contract?

3) Aren't they both signed for the same amount of contract years?

3) Which NHL team has the fewest developing prospects?

Howson needs to move Nash, Kane's value might be damaged. There could be an equal value proposition here.
- John Jaeckel

I actually like Kane for Nash straight up, but I recognize that the economics might not work on a straight trade. Too bad we couldn't unload Sharp and parts for Nash. That would seriously make me happier and then look at a Kane-Getzlaf trade. You get bigger, stronger up the middle, and realistically you could make a deal like that work between the three clubs, though, if I'm Columbus I'm holding out for Kane.

Why would Anaheim deal Kane for Getzlfaf? Is Anaheim going to go with just wingers next season?

And this is exactly why his issues make moving him a DOA proposition - he won't get a good return now. If he did not have issues, would they even be talking about trading him?
- Return of the Roar

You have absolutely no basis for stating he won't get a good return now.
Neither of us know who would offer what for Kane. Who's to say there wasn't a deal on the table 2 months ago that the Hawks liked but decided not to do until the off season.

What publicly known "issues" Kane has won't scare off teams that really want a player of his ability.

And if he had no issues at all, smart teams would still consider trading him if it made them a much better team. We aren't talking about Gretzky or Mario Lemieux here, you know.

Think about this though. Does Howson really need to move Nash? They have 14 players signed and $20MM in cap space at last year's cap number. If money is an issue for Howson, Kane for Nash only saves him $1.5MM annually in cap. Methot is cheaper than Hammer.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I'm not seeing the urgency for Howson unless he gets an overpay at net less cap to him.

- Return of the Roar

With how much has been said there, he pretty much has to trade Nash.

I really don't see them going into the training camp with Nash on the roster.

Yes,because Howsam has done almost everything wrong and has painted himself into a corner and almost has to trade Nash before October...

What he doesn't/shouldn't do is included the #2 overall pick...
In the past 10 years only 2 times has that pick not turned into a really good player...Even Columbus shouldn't screw it up, but with them anything is possible.

Apparently was on his first list, but not a shorter list right at the TDL.

But I also think the situation has evolved. He is OUT. He wants out. I think he will accept a deal to more than a few clubs.

Good question.... Anyone remember what the scuttlebutt was at TDL about this? I'm inclined to think that Chicago was a last minute removal from that list. Seemed like all arrows were pointing toward Toronto in March.

Not so sure on Kane for Nash straight up, but I proposed the following last night...

Kane and the Hawks 2012 1st round pick (18 overall) for Nash and the Jackets 2012 1st round pick (2nd overall).

...the swapping of first round picks makes up (somewhat at least) for the difference in age and $ of the two players involved.

EDIT: Looks like Al shot this one down as I was typing it. . Although at 18 they could probably still get a quality GT.

Ha, that's not really true.

I think clearly I was an early voice that his issues might make it wise to at least shop him or consider dealing him. And then the whole argument erupted.

Hate to say I told you so, but if you haven't read Adam Jahns' piece in the Sun-Times this morning, you should.

He's a big-time talent. I have questioned how much he will ever evolve his game. I also think he is really right now and maybe forever, a completely finesse player. And I will always take the talented physical guy over the talented finesse guy.

Can't we still obtain Nash without dealing Kane? If Hossa isn't able to come back, God willing, Nash takes his spot. If Hossa does come back, the Top 6 is murderous. Posted this yesterday and had a nice response....

Hammer ($3.5), Frolik ($2.33), Bolland ($3.375), and a pick/prospect for Nash ($7.8) and Dorsett ($1.63). Difference is less than $250k in salary swaps. Could even try to toss is Stalberg and Methot in this deal and move Carbomb to 1st or 2nd line with Bollig in the energy line.

Sharp/Toews/Nash
Stalberg/Kane/Hossa
Bickell/Kruger/Shaw
Carcillo/Mayers/Dorsett
Bollig

The real wild card is the cigar smoking GM who's team was just eliminated.

Take CBJ 2013 and I think it would be closer value.

thanks...I wasn't sure yesterday and found an article with his name...But his name was spelled the wrong way...

In any event how Howson has a GM's gig in the NHL is a wonder.

To be clear if the Hawks could get all the players mentioned and the 2nd overall pick I would do the trade...

My point was I don't think Howson is dumb enough to include the #2 overall.

I also said Columbus won't get a better deal if Kane, Stalberg, Hammer etc. are included if the #2 pick isn't part of the deal.

Columbus would net two top line forwards, a number 2-3 dman and a decent prospect in Pirri....That would be tough to pass up.

Stan doesn't have to worry about being worse than Howson....He will be elsewhere first.
