I don't think the NHLPA has any say over trades - and they care about salaries and revenue share much more than take value anyways.
- StLBravesFan

Yes, I agree that they cannot veto a trade, but their working (along with the agents) for the best interest of the player.

You know, I have been reading that Bowman will get fleeced in any trade of Kane, that his value is dropping due to the off-ice activities, etc. I think a big thing that fans are not taking into consideration is there is a union behind the players, and it WILL NOT allow a player to be low-balled. Every trade has an effect on future trades. If KAne was traded for a bag of pucks, what will the next guys trade value be? How many times have we seen FA get huge money thorn at them, and we as fans say 'He got how much?". Player's values are never deminished.

So, anyone who thinks that the Blackhawks or Bowman will get fleeced does not know the physics of pro sports.

Trades are different than FA signings hell they could trade Kane for Sean Avery as long as the teams were cap Compliant nhlpa has a lot less pull on trades that's more agents GM,s

And you're sure they'll "rehabilitate" him and there's no danger of his value dropping further, due to photos or other incidents—as though they've never tried to "rehabilitate" him previously, and prevent the latest batch of photos from coming out?

Really?

I have a bridge I want to sell you.

I don't know if you've ever traded options on the market..... But I see Kane as an options contract. He can go up or down based on performance, off ice antics, and/or environmental factors like other teams trade needs, FA market, cba negotiations, etc. the only constant is time. The closer Kane gets to the end of his contract the older he will be, the less his 'perceived potential' will be, and the less years he will be locked under contract. If you hold him until his contract expires and he doesn't resign you get zero back.

The question is...... Do you trade him and if yes...... When is the best time to do so? last off season was the perfect timing IMO....... Ok..... So the hawks kept him and more time has elapsed and his value dropped...... Do the hawks gamble that over the next year he shapes up and improves his value or will they be sitting here again in one year with an older Kane and even less time remaining on his contract? of course I don't know the answer.

Personally.... I cut my losses and get Toews a partner he doesn't need to babysit and that doesn't take shifts off. I.e. Nash if Columbus is willing to take on another Jeff Carter experiment.

Doubt either columbus or chicago would want to swap superstars within the same division for the sake that the trade will bite them in the arse. What if nash has a bad year and gets hurt and kane just lights up the hawks everytime he plays them and vice versa. Boy that would look awful. With how soft the hawks are, kane would have a field day with this current hawks team.

BTW NHL 36 is on NBC sportsnetwork and is playing the kane episode. Hes slamming beers right now with his dad and taking his shirt off while beating cab drivers.

Two moves - Kane for Getzlaf straight up.

then Hawks make a play for Chris Stewart who will be the result of cost cutting measure with new ownership in St. Louis, in lieu of Perron or Oshie IMO.

Toews-Hossa-Sharp
Getzlaf-Stalberg-Stewart
Bolland-Frolik-Bickell
Kruger-X-X

Getlaf on the point returns the Hawks to elite PP status.

Hey everyone long time no post......

Great posts as usual JJ

This isn't a "I told you so post" but I want to comment on the PK stuff. I stated a few months ago that we will all know when Kane is on his way out.....and it's pretty consistent with how McD works. I just saw on channel 5 10 O'clock news a brief segment on how the Hawks have demanded he get professional help. The fact this is even on the news speaks volumes of where he stands in the organization and how the hawks are positioning themselves in this situation. IF he does stay on the team this year look for a less Kane presence in their marketing campaign. The puck does seem to be in his net and it's his time to make decisions on his life. The same thing happened to the beloved Sosa during his time with the Cubs. As soon as the Cub decided they wanted to move away from the carnival he was trashed for leaving earlier during a late season game.....again something they would've never allowed to reported if they still considered him the crown jewel.......all on McD and the marketing machine during that time.

Unless Kane does get the help they suggested......sadly his career as a hawk may be down to its last few months.

Perhaps this "concern" over Kane is merely the Hawks trying to placate the media and fans that care about this sort of thing. I personally could care less what athletes do on their own time.

After all, a team owned by a family that owns the largest liquor distributorship in Illinois and currently employs an alcoholic, wife-beating, Hitler symphathizer as a team ambassador can't possibly be putting this much importance on this.

Just so we're clear...you can be an alcoholic, beat your wife and sympathize with one of history's greatest villains and not only will you get a nice cushy job repping the organization but you'll also get a statue built in your honor.

but if your a 23 year old getting drunk at a college party, the same team is going to suggest you go to rehab?

Seems to me the Hawks were better off letting this one go.

But if it's not Kane-plus for Nash-plus, if it's less coming back than that, you just can't trade him - you have to get value back - you can't be a worse team after that trade than before.
- StLBravesFan

Nash is a better player than Kane, so how would they be a worse team? Seriously, the only thing going for Kane in this deal is the age difference. There is the high cap hit for Nash, but what do you think Kane and Toews' cap hits will be when they need to be re-upped? Easily $7M+!!! Nash is one of the premiere top 2 or 3 power forwards in hockey!! For a team lacking size and a force around the net, Nash is one of the best there is. Big players with quick hands and top-end skill are MUCH more valuable than small playmaking players. You aren't going to get a player like Nash for a bunch of spare parts; you have to give up something of significance. If Bowman was asked for Kane earlier in the year for Nash, he should have made the deal!!!

What exactly does that help the Ducks with? Getzlaf is their only legitmate center and the closest active player in the league to Eric Lindros. Why would they move him for Patrick Kane? The Ducks are loaded with wingers from the NHL down to the Junior ranks.

New Ownership in St. Louis has also stated that they are willing to spend to the cap. The Blues also made quite a bit of money this year, they were up there in attendance. The franchise has been brought back to respectability.

Even if they were broke, your saying it as if one of the key pieces from trading a former 1st overall pick in Eric Johnson would be "cost cutting maneveur".

Interesting assessment and probably accurate. The Hawks allow the publicity of the incident to die down without commenting and then 2 weeks later are prominent in allowing things to resurface publically again.

Have suspected all along that Rocky has ordered Kane's permanent removal. Those alleged anti-semitic slurs may have been the final straw.

With Columbus being in the division I'm not sure they would swap such big names but anything is possible ...with oduya locked in and given hammers age he and Kane could fetch a big return if Columbus is the partner Nash brasserd Dorset add a pick/ prospects from the hawks maybe to fill things out add d man through free agency ....thougts

My point is not whether the hawks are right or wrong on how they are handling the Kane situation but rather an observation on how Kane is portrayed to the media.....

Clue #1 - After the Madison incident the organization sat silent with members of the media begging for a comment or statement. The silence and lack of defense towards Kane was deafening.....think of it this way.....A player that is in almost every marketing campaign or commercial is offered no protection from the organization. He is the face or one of the faces of your team and.......nothing.....crickets.

Clue #2 - NBC News runs a story claiming the hawks have asked Kane to seek professional help. Three weeks after the momentum of the story has died down. When has a team in any sports allowed something that should be an internal matter be reported like that.....close to never.

Clue #3 - It's no coincidence that EddieO slammed PK in an interview with Dan McNeil for missing the IHF and not playing for the US......hmmm what was Kane doing during the IHF.

Clue #4- Look at the coverage from the beat reporters regarding PK since the Madison situation....mostly if not all negative.

It's coming folks....my guess is, if PK is not in rehab by the draft he gets traded.....and if he does he is on a tight lease with any slip up resulting in a trade deadline move.

Also and not trying to start a rumor and others do know this I'm sure. I know people who know of the Kane issues and it's not just alcohol......there is a certain white powdery substance he likes as well.

And last thought....Bobby Hull is a vile human being......

No disrespect, but your jumping to quite a few conclusions.

Clue #1- First of all, why would the Hawks need to come out and defend Kane? He didn't do anything wrong. He wasn't arrested, he isn't underage. It was a 23 year old guy doing what 23 year olds do. A professional sports organization needs to make a statement about that? The only smart move is to keep silent, which is what the Hawks did.

Clue #2- The Hawks didn't float this story. There was a press conference announcing the signings of two players and member of the media brought it up. Bowman had no choice but to address it. They were dissapointed, they spoke to Kane about it, out of respect to him they aren't going to speak about it anymore. The Hawks can't control what the media decides to report.

Clue #4- Actually, one member of the media did write a positive story about it, David Haugh. He contacted the owner of the bar in Madison where Kane was supposedly passed out at the bar, the Madison PD and the sorority president where Kane showed up after he was supposedly kicked out of the frat. The commond trend in what he found was that Kane was either not at some of these places at all, or simply not doing not doing anything out of the ordinary.

I also wouldn't hold the media in Chicago in too high a standard. The best example I can think of is Mark Prior. If you live in Chicago, remember back to around 2006ish. Every time Prior's name was brought up by the media it was accompanied with..."is faking injury, hates playing for the Cubs, doesn't want to pitch" and yet without any kind of concrete evidence the media continually ran with that angle. Not long after, Prior went to Dr. Andrews and it turns out his shoulder was completely shredded. Not a single member of the Chicago media retracted any of their comments...in fact, any time Prior's name is brought up today, they laugh at him.

Point being, they'll run with whatever angle helps them get more readers or webpage hits. The truth or reality of a situation gets swept under the rug. It's the "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality of the media in this country. Sensationalism rules the day.

I think people that are anticipating Kane being traded are going to be dissapointed. If anything, current trends show that if a player is highly valuable to his team off the field issues are largely irrelevant. Ben Rothleisberger was twice accused of sexual assault and the Steelers didn't get rid of him. Ditto for Kobe Bryant. Josh Hamilton is a hardcore drug addict who relapsed twice in recent years and the Rangers have allowed him to work through his problems.

Rothleisberger is the best example of this. He's had 3 off the field incidents (motorcycle accident/ sexual assault x2) which directly affected his team on the field and he's still the face of the Steelers. Pretty hardcore stuff compared to a guy getting hammered a few times in public and taking his shirt off in the back of a limo.

It's going to be no different with Kane. He's the hardest player to replace on the Hawks, like it or not...there's maybe one other player in the league with the same calibur vision, hands, and playmaking ability. The Hawks don't have anyone like that in the system and aren't going to get one by trading Kane away for 30 cents on the dollar.

You do realize your talking about a 23 year old and not Theo Fleury? And yes I would logically take my chances with Kane over Nash. Kane is way more talented then Nash and he is only 23 and isn't even close to peak yet but once he gets as old as Nash he will be making goalies look like clowns.

You do realize you are talking about a 5 year NHL veteran whose numbers have fallen the last two seasons and his maturity has not improved at all. Also when Kane is Nash's age he may not be making clowns of goalies as a hawk. He is a FA in 3 seasons.
