Followed by Parise and Suter to Detroit. This may help explain the Oduya signing.

Followed by Detroit to the Eastern Conference!

I'm leaning towards no.

TSN is reporting Lidstrom will retire.

They've got to be in pretty hard for a Suter or Matt Carle type splash. Especially because Stuart sounds like he's as good as gone as well.

1) Wow. OK, you wait for the official statement and believe that. Free country.

2) I don't think you understand what you're talking about. What do you mean by b.s.? Q ratings are based on what consumers think/feel about a given celebrity, period. So whether you want to call them b.s. or media fed, THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE. That's the point.

THINK: Ferrara Pan markets to who? Adults and to a large extent . . . kids. They make candy. Right?! Do they want an endorser with those photos and other allegations out there? Not smart marketing.

Hypothetically, IF there is a drinking problem, do the Chevy dealers want an endorser who's a risk for a DUI? No, they don't.

It's not whether it's completely true or fair or not. In advertising, there is a large extent to which perception IS reality. Like it or not. Worse still, he has done nothing, to his own detriment, to change it for the better.

- John Jaeckel

A slow news day out here in BC. They've got nothing better to fill space with. This is how perception becomes reality.

Stuart basically already has his name on a Ducks or Shark jersey.

Carle re-upping in Philly looks close to, which basically means instead of 5-10 teams looking at guys like Bryan Allen and Barret Jackmen, it'll be closer to 20.

So many teams need help on the back-end, and there just isn't any proven talent available.

I think were gonna see a Richard-load of trades at the draft.

And this is how a player's trade value evaporates overnight.

If Bowman was ever smart, especially to c-block Detroit hardcore, now is the time to do it if Lidstrom retires. Not only about improving your team but preventing other teams from getting better. If bowman can lure suter, Detroit is officially going to be up the creek without a #1 dman for a while

People need to campaign bowman to make a ballsy move here.

1. Trade Hammer for picks and clear his 3.5
2. either dump montador, LTIR him, or get him to retire (this makes $9 mil space at current cap)
3. Sign suter at 6.5 per for long term

Hawks D lines would be

Keith Seabrook
Suter Leddy
Oduya Olsen
Lalonde

~$2 mil left in cap space. Enjoy

You answered the question yourself with your next post. The market for quality defensemen is going to be an expensive one. I am thinking the Hawks recently felt out of the running for Suter, saw what else was out there and what they would have to pay, and ran for a lower paying contract for a known quantity. This puts them in a position to add size and puck movement for the price of one heavy contract.

Kane and whomever else for Nash will require Nash's consent to come to Chicago.

This is why I don't think this deal will happen either. I think he will be a Maple Leaf for 2012-13.

- Return of the Roar

I think Nash would consent to come to Chicago, it's a great city and hockey market. Being in the same division as the Jackets I'm sure he'd love the opportunity to show them what they are missing several times per year.

So your suggesting they knew ahead of time that Lidstrom was retiring, meaning Detroit was going to be an equally big player for Suter?

I'm just trying to clarify.

No - I think that it is possible they may have heard news indicative of Suter leaning toward Detroit, and/or away from Chicago as his destination city.

Although people do talk, and inter-GM disclosure of Lidstrom retiring would not be out of the question.

Someone yesterday suggested this...

Hammer
Bolland
Frolik

for

Nash
Dorsett

Include a prospect or a pick, and that's as far a deal as you can have for both sides whilst moving a contract like Nash's. Theres like a 250k difference in salary.

I am guessing Howson ideally wants a goalie as any part of a deal for Nash.

I think the fact that Oduya already previously expressed his desire to stay in Chicago helped for sure. He fell in love with the city pretty quick.

He should've got someone last year and sent Mason to the minors and at least tried to salvage the kid's career.

He did, Mark Dekanich.

If I'm not mistaken, one of his quotes was..."We like Marks potential. We also liked the fact that he's a left-catch, where as Mason is a righty. We thought it was vital that our back-up was the opposite, so that our shooters in practice weren't shooting at two right-catching goalies."

And this guy gets to run an NHL team.

I usually agree with a lot that you post. That bbeing said, this province article is a joke. One pic is with a hottie and Burish is cut out of the picture. Others are countless pictures of him celebrating with the Stanley cup. I understand the arguments here, but losing an elite playmaker at the age of 23 is a ballsy move in itself.

I agree with you. The article, as with the other cited sources, really doesn't do much other than add to the sea of doubt surrounding Kaner.

The issue is that the perception train is now out of the station. If he has no issues, why trade him? If you want to trade him, combined with the "issues" in the press - regardless of their validity - what GM in their right mind would take on Kaner for much of anything in return now?
