A tame example: Bill Flett -- who drank his way off the Flyers after 1973-74 (that took some doing in those days) used to dare people at bars to set his beard on fire. One time, an equally inebriated teammate actually took him up on it.

And they probably got high-fived when fans found out, not run out of town.

I can imagine. Seems like more people want to watch "the real lives of philadelphia bachelors" then NHL hockey games. Why people are interested or (even more shocking) surprised that professional athletes party.

I would do the same thing if I was in that position. Young, rich, single what else am I suppose to do in the offseason?

I agree with you. I think they should go out and party been saying that all day today. I dont want players who sit in and watch love movies all night.

Terry Sawchuk would not go to the movies for fear that it would adversely affect his vision.

I mean, we know Richards and Carter are the only ones that do it, right? No one else parties in the NHL

1. Social media is ruining sports
2. I'm sure Philadelphia wanted to hang bobby Clarke and the broad st bullies for drinking all the time too, right?
3. I wonder what year it will be before people stop caring about this topic.

I think it's a non issue unless it affects your job or the organization in a bad way. Stay within the rules of the law and dont make a fool of yourself. If your drinking and coming to practice or games toasted then it becomes an issue.

I think he's a good coach but needs to put his players in a better position at times. Have to make adjustments and make it easier to execute so your players can succeed. I'm sure he does that at times and its more on the players but I think as a coach you can always improve also.

Yup, and almost all of the time, only the player and people within the organization know of that's occurring or not.

I think hes been getting better each year he's been here. I don't doubt that he will find a way to take the team another step forward next year.

Thats why you have to take Homers word for it. I have heard rumors that Snider wasnt a fan of Richards but you have to take that with a grain of salt.

Remember when we had all three: Richards, Carter and Lupul?

A little mad that Richards wasn't wearing his shades in this picture.

Yeah I think sometimes he is a good coach. I just worry about their defensive system. Is it the Players? Who knows. I just watch teams like the kings, Rags, Boston, and even the devils who are D first and wonder if the Flyers are good enough in that area. If they played team D like they did in game 5 of the Pens series on a regular basis. They still might be playing.

That article leaves a lot to be desired. He went only by stats.

Cechmanek was FAR from the worst playoff goalie the team has ever had. What's more fair to say is that he had the worst elimination game performances, and then it would be a lot more accurate.

Robbie Moore? He was only starting because Wayne Stephenson was injured and ineffective, to go along with a red hot stretch during his brief regular season callup. Moore had one rough relief appearance and one start where he got roughed up, and was otherwise OK. http://flyershistory.com/...=Robbie_Moore&season=1979

To me, the worst Flyers playoff goalie was Sean Burke. In his first stint, Burke was awful in the series against Buffalo (as well as being inconsistent down the stretch). In his second stint, he was brought in as a rental to be the playoff starter but got outplayed by Robert Esche to the point where there was no way Hitchcock could justify NOT starting Esche in the 2004 playoffs.

Doug Favell belongs on the list because somewhere because he had a knack for giving up bad goals at the worst possible times and the trade to bring Bernie Parent back was the final major piece in the Flyers' Stanley Cup puzzle.

John Vanbiesbrouck had great numbers in his one playoff series as a starter but the goals he allowed -- specifically three stoppable short-side goals -- were of the backbreaking variety.

I'm not even going to go into Bryzgalov but suffice to say he was shaky in 3 games against Pittsburgh, adequate to solid in the other 3. In the NJ series, he was the biggest reason the Flyers weren't blown out early in Game 1, lost their 1-0 lead long before the third period of Game 2, and had even a fighting chance in Game 4 heading into the third period.

I totally agree. I posted that article to show that Homer and Ed's comments were not too far to the bashing side. That is a ridiculous list and I think it shows that Homer was critical but honest and Ed was less critical and more thoughtful in his response. I appreciated Ed's comments, more so then Homers right after they lost, and I think it is a shame that a lot of Philly fans didn't.

Do you not think that Bryz could have played better this year? I'm not putting the PO let down on his shoulders as the team disappeared against NJ. But I have a definitive answer to that question in my mind.

I wonder if the Kings win the Cup during the team pick of it, will Richards mouth the words "take the franking picture"?

Different day and age. Not only drinking but smoking was a common practice by professional athletes in those days.
Also they won not one but two cups and unfortunately winning gives them probably a lot more leeway then they deserve.

He played sensational in March. Was that due to the team paying better or him?

I think Bryz was more confident in march cause he had at least one big D man in Grossman to clear the net and they Flyers have shown good team D here and there but overall pretty up and down
