Oilers would be silly not to draft Yakupov though. Galchenyuk may develop into a more complete player but Yakupov will be a game changer. - Bozzy
When he's not on IR, IMO. |

It's a shame Grigs is lazy cause he's a great player and fits what TO needs IMO. I've seen his lack of effort first hand and then he'll make the D look silly on a play. Hard guy to figure out. |

He had mono throughout the playoffs. So was he really lazy or just not able to constantly bring it? Somebodies job will be made or destroyed by Grigorenko. |

if CBJ is really stupid enough to take Forsberg at #2, does MTL go and take Galchuyck (i know i cant spell) or do they take Murray. The Islanders getting Murray at #4 would be big for them. |

That's a good point, I forgot he had Mono. He could be the biggest bust or a memorable steal for whoever takes him, that's for sure. |

Interesting.
I know that the habs hold on their own combine. Last year they had Biggs, Beaulieu, Huberdeau and a few guys from the 'Q, from the rumblings I had. They certainly had more.
This year the names that went out are Culkin, Grigorenko, Brassard (form Québec), Dubeau (Shawinigan), Mallet (Rimouski) and certainly a few top prospects to see their skating ability and their physical status. They also usually meet with the players again. |

No, he'll go first for sure.
Just remember: I had RNH at 1 last year and got grief for it #tootingmyownhorn - Brian Huddle
Gotta give it to you, you were right last year.
Couturier and Huberdeau were mine.
But as usual I underrated the fact that you start with a strike against when you play in the 'Q. |

It's harder to tell how players from the QMJHL will translate, because it's generally a more wide open league, and lacks the edge the the Dub and O have. In general. Not always.
You have to be really smart to scout that league.

How much of Couturier slipping was tied to his mono?
Scouts can be pretty harsh in downgrading a kid if he does not get on the ice and perform every night out. |

Well his production didn't really improve, and that's what slowed scouts on him, because they thought he didn't have much more to develop offensively... Obviously they were wrong.
That and the fact that he played in the least scouted league in the CHL. Ironically, the kid was scouted for a few years, and his last was so much scrutinized by the scouts that it lowered his ranks, to the favor of the Flies. |

Yup, Yakupov with concussions and Russian, Galchenyuk with a busted knee, forsberg plays in a tier 2 league in Sweden, Grigs with mono and Russian factor...looking great for the top 4 forwards |

Oh well, odds are the Oilers will always have at least 1, 1st overall in the lineup...

Mono (inconsistency), tied with his numbers not going up, and then his boots seemed very heavy and he didn't have any explosiveness that scouts wanted to see him work on.

Not until the end. I had RNH at 1 in Feb, and all the Oilers fans came into the blog telling me I was dumb because Larsson and Landeskog were the obvious clear cut #1s. - Brian Huddle
As far as HB posters, No one put landeskog ahead of rnh. Some may have commented on his advantages and why the oilers could pick him, but rnh was ahead of him on pretty much every oiler fans lists.
Larsson on the other hand was a bit more of a debate. There were a few, including myself, that wanted him. Most oiler fans were on the rnh train though.
Yakupov is the clear cut #1 this year too |
