Exactly. Picking Yakupov is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.

And despite what some believe, trading down is not the right move as far as I'm concerned. Unless a team is CLEARLY overpaying with multiple assets, why not just keep Yakupov for a year or two and THEN trade him? Or trade Hall? Or whoever?

You get more for an established player then a pick, no question.

If the team picking first does not pick Yakupov, they're bat-sh1t crazy. The end.

i dont know if we are still discussing Schenn... but is he that great? i know Leaf fans talked a few years ago like he was becoming the next Orr. all i hear is Schenn and Kulimen for Staal... don't know much about either of them.

Agreed.

Size is over-rated. It's more about strength. Look no further then Cal Clutterbuck, a guy who has essentially put half the NHL on it's ass since he's been in the league. If I'm not mistaken, he's about 5'10. Definitely under 6 foot.

Irrelevant. It's more about the strength of your stash.

Explains Mike Brown who's also 5'10 and vicious.

Not sure why Schenn got that reputation. 20 points is about what everyone expected, always league leader in hits, same with blocked shots, puts people on their asses. Seems pretty legit to me or at most what I expected from him. Put an actual defensive system around him and he'll make you feel sorry for entering his side of the arena.

Certainly no Orr, I'm not sure who to compare him to. But I've seen flashes of what he's capable of, shutting down top offensive players b/c they simply aren't even close to his strength level (and I mean he's put Malkin on his ass a few times and shut him down). He can be beat easily with speed however, hence a defensive system would clog up said speed.
