Who knows... people didnt think Stamkos was gonna be as good as he is.
People didnt think RNH was NHL ready last year... its hard to say until these guys play and prove their worth.
I think RNH will be the best of the bunch though.

I'm not saying Yak CAN'T be that good, but the odds of him being a perennial 50 goal scorer are low. Stammer is a rare breed with a world class wrister so the odds are already against yak. If yak can atleast be PPG player (which is highly likely) that's already a win for you. But if he can match stammer, good luck with that cap space!

I wouldnt consider it disrespectful, just unprofessional. Its clear that Yaks isnt trying to impress anyone, but in my opinion he should be. - Leafs43
I don't understand why it's unprofessional... I recognize that it's usually considered unprofessional, so I'm not disagreeing with what you said, I just don't understand that view. I think it's a very flawed way of looking at things, and it'll eventually change over time. Like 40-50 years ago, if you never wore your business suit/dress to the hockey game, you were basically an outcast.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that it's OK to dress as a complete slob... I'm just saying that I don't feel business suits are necessary.

In all seriousness, Yakupov has the quickest release I have ever seen. He's a premature puckulator.

It just implies to me that Yaks is under the impression that he doesnt have to impress anybody. But regardless, we are looking into this way too much. At the end of the day it isnt a big deal.

I think what it does is stops those idiots from asking him the gun or poem question, because he might actually have a new gun strapped to his back. You just never know.

I'd say I'm a poem. My moves are poetry in motion... It's beautiful, and will be never be forgotten.

A freak knee accident vs. a 5'10 Russian going Kamikaze every shift and getting his head rattled. (2nd concussion in two years)
There are legitimate concerns about Yakupov's style of play, especially when he's not 6'4 and 230 lbs. - Brian Huddle

Your telling me galchenyuk is 4 inches taller than nail??
No way.
If looking at that picture isnt proof enough that listings are a jOke. Nothing will.
Nail is prob around 5'll and 190. Hes a brick. He'll be just fine.
He actually weighs more and is way thicker than the 'big' center alex at this point too.
But yes. He plays a Physical, extremely fast, electric game.
The oilers should pass.

Lindros was a big guy. Size is irrelevant if you skate with your head down. Yakupov will need to learn to keep his head up, because the hits he will get from guys like Weber or Doughty are far worse than what he is getting in the OHL.

Agreed.
Size is over-rated. It's more about strength. Look no further then Cal Clutterbuck, a guy who has essentially put half the NHL on it's ass since he's been in the league. If I'm not mistaken, he's about 5'10. Definitely under 6 foot.

His size was my retort, not my argument.
He skates with his head up. He got caught once. It could happen to anyone.
In fact, his head was up. Even when he cut into the middle. got bumped by the defender and looked down to recorral the puck for a second and...
Point is, skating with his head down is not a problem

I didnt realize he was that small!
Its the same every year. Pundits invent excuses to question the pick near the end.
Rnh was too slight to compete this year in the nhl.
Hall wasnt a 'cerebral' enough of a player.
Tavares wasnt a good enough skater.
Stamkos didnt have the true elite upside.
Theres always a reason to pick the next guy. Pretty sure all those teams are happy they went with consensus #1, despite there shortcomings.

Exactly. Picking Yakupov is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.
And despite what some believe, trading down is not the right move as far as I'm concerned. Unless a team is CLEARLY overpaying with multiple assets, why not just keep Yakupov for a year or two and THEN trade him? Or trade Hall? Or whoever?
You get more for an established player then a pick, no question.
