I've always said that the Leafs should trade down if they're at 5th and Galchenyuk and Murray are gone. That means waiting to see how thinks play out because things could change ahead of us and he could fall. Odds are slim at best though.

So many problems, where to start?
1) It's a HUGE overpayment. Why would Toronto pay that much for a goalie? And this is only if Calgary actually decides to blow it up and rebuild
2) What if Galchenyuk is not avail at number 5?
3) Easy to say sign those guys, but reality will be quite different
4) You can't trade Army to TSN unless Army calls it quits and retires.
5) You can't bury Komi in the minors. Pretty sure he has a NMC that prevents it.

It may be a bit of an overpayment, but not HUGE. They'd be eating Lombardi, and would only have Mac for a year, Colborne is still a prospect. Schenn would be the biggest peice and Reimer is still a project but with a decent up side.

I just think the only way we attract the Parise/Suter types is if we shore up the back end. someone would gamble on Army for a late pick, and I think Komi could be moved to a floor team with a more trapping style.

If it's not Galy then any of the forwards available in the top5 could fit in there...they'd likely have another year in the A anyways.

Calgary has zero interest in a rebuild. Their owners are on a warpath for 8th place in the West. Just like the Leafs. They have zero interest in trading away one of the best goalies in the league for spare parts like Lombardi and MacArthur.

There is absolutely nothing in that package, either individually, or combined, that helps the Flames win games. You expect them to replace Kipper with Reimer? Take on absurd contracts like Lombardi?

If they could pull that off and get Faksa at 11th and Gaunce at 16th, that would be amazing.

But I seriously doubt the Capitals would make that trade and that Faksa falls to 11th.

If the Flames are "rebuilding" like you say they are, why would they take on so much salary?

The Flames are going to ride Kipper until they can't anymore and there's no way in hell they're trading him for spare parts or replacing him with Reimer.
