I would be surprised if they choose a goalie with the first two picks, the Leafs really liked what Sparks showed this year so I think a goalie will not be on the draft list for this year, plus the Leafs have only a few picks this year.
- LeafMan

They have their first, second and third right? Schultz is the signing that I believe is just falling into their lap (Here's hoping)

I really feel like Montreal's gonna screw us on Galy. I hate that, I really do, I have a good feeling about Galy....

I figured Subban, cuz it would give us room to maneuvre with some assets (overloading at the goaltending and using one or two for upgrades)

Although of the three, I care for getting Subban the least...

I think the bigger question is...

How do you really feel about his Calgary trade?

- Juice

I thought he spelt it out quite clearly...no?

Calgary is gonna learn the hard way, gotta build through the draft at some point! Much like the did in the early 80's, which of course resulted in the 89 Stanley Cup.

wouldn't call Frattin or Scrivens young by any means.
- DoubleDown

This is correct. Scrivens is 26 and Frattin is 24.

i'd say it's 50-50 on Montreal takign Galchenyuk or Griegorenko. though now that Dudley's on board, likely Galchenyuk.

Unfortunately, this is sad but true. I didn't have much hope to begin with that Galchenyuk would fall but odds are he won't. There was a glimmer of hope the Habs would screw up and take Grigorenko but it's fading by the day.

Funny that someone from Philly would take time out of their day to not only read this story, which has zero to do with the Flyers, but to also leave a comment like we shouldnt be excited about whats going on in our farm system.

Losing Dudley is going to screw us out of a lot of things. He's the only one we had on staff who was worth a damn. Should have fired Burke and replaced him with Dudley the second there was a threat of him leaving.

He's been irrelevant for two years. So, yeah, you're two years late.

You're talking cap-hit.

I'm celebrating the fact that he's officially off the books and will not be wearing anything that represents the Maple Leafs...they have enough things bringing them down anyway.

No, chances were pretty slim Galchenyuk was going to fall to 5th. Dudley leaving just made it a little worse.

Calgary needs to start their rebuild. The would get a quality young prospect up the middle in Colborne, a solid young d man in Schenn, a young goalie with upside in Reimer, some secondary scoring in Mac, and they might be willing to give Lombardi another chance there (and he is short-term risk).

From what I understand Calgary doesn't have much in their system and Kipper doesn't have that many years left of him anyways. Adding Schenn, Colborne and Reimer would help add to their youth.

For TOR, Kipper would give us solid goaltending for a couple years, until we see who of Scrivens, Ryannas or Owuya can be our future goalie.

- B-Leaf

You don't want to make a trade that essentially turns the focal point of the Kaberle trade and your 5th overall pick + fillers into a 36 year old goalie (come training camp).

I couldn't care less about the Maple Leafs books. They have plenty of money.

As for Finger, he was a horrid NHL defender but the AHL is where he belonged. Think he was hurt the last two years.

The best thing about him being "officially" gone is that there's an open spot for a younger player. So for that, yes, I will celebrate with you.

Calgary has zero interest in a rebuild. Their owners are on a warpath for 8th place in the West. Just like the Leafs. They have zero interest in trading away one of the best goalies in the league for spare parts like Lombardi and MacArthur.

There is absolutely nothing in that package, either individually, or combined, that helps the Flames win games. You expect them to replace Kipper with Reimer? Take on absurd contracts like Lombardi?

Insanely unrealistic.

*Posted this in the old blog....

I say we go for Kipper. Make a big trade to try to entice Parise/Suter....

To CGY:
Lombardi
MacArthur
Schenn
Colborne
Reimer

To TOR:
Kipper
Draft Galchenyuk
Sign Parise, Suter & Schultz
Trade Armstrong to TSN

Move Komisarek to a floor team for late pick/prospect or bury him with the marlies. Let Connolly play out his last year on the 3rd line with Galchenyuk coming up for him when he is injured. Galy can come up the year after when Connolly is done and trade spots with Bozak.

If the cap goes to ~$67Mil it could work....I'm guessing it will go to about $69Mil

- B-Leaf

Dude while Kiprusoff would actually be my 1st choice to bethe Leafs #1 next season there is no way the Flames take Lombardi. If and I mean if the Flames make a trade with the Leafs they would have to be the clear winners in their own minds after the last couple of trades they have done with the Leafs. Plus the big question is does Kiprusoff play more than 1 more season as the last year of his contract he "only" gets paid 1.5 mill. The general consesus is he retires after this season.

No the best bet is the UFA route in Vokoun or Harding for 2 or 3 yrs as they won't cost us heavy prospects. And 2 or 3 yrs will give both Reimer and Scrivens time to mature, if BB doesn't trade 1 of them.
And yes I might trade either of them for the right price. Like the Jacket's 2nd overall pick for Reimer/Scrivens, Kenny Ryan/Marcel Mueller and Bozak. That would give the Jackets 3 players that could potentially step right into their line up and give the Leafs a 2nd top 5 pick.

If you want to get rid of Komi and his NMC BB would have to go to the new ownership and see if they are willing to step up financially. If they are make an offer directly to Wang the owner of the Islanders. DiPietro still has 9 more yrs at 4.5 mill per season. So the Leafs trade Komi (hometown boy) and let's say Jerry D'Amigo (Close to East Coast boy) For DePietro and 2012 1st and 2nd rd picks and 2013 1st rd pick.

Komi's cap hit is 4.5 but he only is paid 3.5. So Mr Wang saves 33.5 million keeps the cap hit so the Islanders can stay close to the cap floor and get a really good prospect in D'Amigo.

The Leafs open a spot on the D line, get 2 1st and 1 2nd rd pick. If there is an amnesty clause inthe new CBA they can buy D'Pietro out or send him down to the Marlies or even down to the ECHL until he can stay healthy and play up to his original potential.

This could give the Leafs 3 1st rd picks in the top 5 and 2 high 2nd rd picks this year and 2 1st rd picks next year.
