I see your point. And your point is pretty much meaningless.

If we signed him for 3-4 season, then I'd agree.

But we signed him for a 1 season....

- jbold

And I will agree with you potentially if I see the number of contracts we are looking at.

You can't shake your head and know who I'm thinking should go, in my opinion they have to open a spot or two.
- LeafMan

As much as we would all love to see Komisarek pack his bags and never return, it's unlikely to happen. That means they would have to trade a younger, better player just for the sake of opening up a spot. They don't need to open a spot. They have six guys, an RFA 7th and Holzer can sit in the AHL for one more year if need be as the first call-up. Injuries happen every single year. They are going to need them all at one point or another.

How many contracts are we at? Will we be at?
- markmark

I don't know who they will keep and let go but they are right at 50 contracts judging by who I think makes the most sense to keep next season, I also added the newest contract additions, Abbott's kicks in next season, Granberg and Komarov, it's why I said earlier a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 trade is likely.

if we get Schultz - i think u could see 2 D being moved.
- big_dion

This..especially with Holzer....and if you include Blacker who wont make the big team, that makes 10D....

It doesn't matter how many contracts we're looking at quite yet.

I'm sure we have some on the Marlies that are coming off the books, and we aren't even in free agency/draft yet

You're going to see trades happen which we'll be packaging players for 1 player.

Not Phaneuf

Not Liles

Not Komisarek (unless the Islanders need to get to the cap floor!!!!!)

Not Gardiner

Doesn't leave a lot of other suspects, does it?

It depends on a lot of things. If Brown keeps getting hurt, he'll get more games. If the Leafs don't sign any other 4th liners, he'll get more games. If the Leafs don't have any 4th liners who are better, he'll get more games. They didn't sign him to play him for 5 games and he didn't come over here to do that either. He's going to play a significant amount of games unless they start signing a slew of 4th liners to compete with him. I already suggested one being Parros. Maybe there will be more. Who knows?

That's a lot more depth than we have at forward.

Something needs to happen.

If its handcuffing us by giving Komarov a contract, then I continue to stand by my opinion. IF it is keeping players from making the jump to the Marlies, or hindering potential deals then it is stupid in my opinion to "try things out". If thats how its being operated then we might as well go sign the fattest man alive to play in net for us and HOPE it works out.

But in the end, if we have the space, all the power to them, but as soon as it hinders any potentially positive things happening in the organization, it was a bad bad idea IMO.

Something has to be up, looks like we are going to lose Josh Nicholls because of it, can't understand why they don't want to sign him (earlier), he is a pretty decent prospect playing for the Blades.

every team needs a waste of space to fill up the cap, no need to sign a good player.

That's six signed guys, a 7th RFA.

One guy who hasn't even signed yet.

Two other guys that are in the AHL.

That's not out of the ordinary for Burke. Remember everybody saying he was going to trade a bunch of defencemen for forwards last year? Didn't happen.

Stupid to lose a player like him with other wastes of space under contract. How do they justify having Broll under contract and not Nicholls? Or Crescenzi? Or Devane? Or Ryan?

While I agree with the "unlikeliness of Komisarek being moved", BB does indeed have a couple of interesting personal dilemas to address, and those dilemas are limitations on himself. Both Komisarek and Connolly represent dead money - and perhaps more significantly dead roster spots. If - and this is a big if - BB wants to go after Luongo (I'm not saying I think he should) AND/OR BB wants to go after a Rick Nash then he has no choice but to eat his commentary about his commitment to those players, he has to eat his commentary and change his stance on CAP circumventing contracts and he has to - whether verbally or not - acknowledge the failure those FA signings represent.

I would suggest that if he does want to sign Schulz - then at very least he has to clear one defensive roster spot... and its less likely to be Phaneuf, Liles or Schenn... leaving Komi as the "odd man (read most expendable) out".... Gunnarson and Gardiner stay purely from a fiscal perspective.

In short - for BB to able to make any real moves to improve the team and therefore have a chance at a playoff spot in the spring or 2013.. he's got to clear the dead wood, the CAP and the roster spots... there really is only a few candidates that help in that pursuit - that starts with Komisarek, Connolly, Lombardi and Armstrong.

exactly.

given the apparent depth, particularly on the D side, Franson is almost certainly gone.
