I know people say take a d-man if available but damn, if and a big if. if Schultz is coming that can address it, if not Gardiner and Blacker are in the system, we NEED skilled centres, you have to take chances, the Leafs need to find one this draft.
What I mean by chances, grab a couple of centres with the first two picks, stock the system. - LeafMan
If any of Grigorenko, Galy, or Yakupov(lol) fall to the Leaf's pick, you take them.
If all the big forwards are gone by the time we pick, you take Murray.
If you're left with Forsberg, Trouba, Dumba, or Reilly.... I'd go with one of the d-men... preferably not Trouba. I don't know why, but I just don;t get a good vibe from Forsberg. We don't need defensemen, especially with the prospect of Schultz coming... but say we draft a top-seeded d-man, and sign Shultz... that opens up the door to move Schenn( ) and Gunnarsson in a package for the center we want.
Hell, maybe just see if we can trade those guys for a top-5 pick, and just draft Galy with that |

You don't get to where any of these guys are by being lazy or heartless... it's about staying focused and motivated. A lot of guys, when they make it big, lose their focus, and get lost inside their own heads. Dealing with these guys isn't about trying to weed out the laziness, it's about finding the right motivation. - Feeling Glucky?
However you frame it ...part of scouting is about determining whether a certain player has the will to win. They all want to win but some, as it inevitably turns out, want it more. They're all willing to hit the wall to win ...but how hard. That's gotta be the toughest variable to scout.

Well if he is signed, going to have to move 1 or 2, we also have Holzer that needs to be up here, AHL is done for him, can't see him resigning to be on the farm again. - LeafMan
We're all hoping that's a 'problem' they have to address. |

I don't watch the market closely enough to gather an informed view here, but I find it hard to believe any team would take a 60pt 2C at that hit as we speak, let alone if his production drops.
Just seemed like a lot of money unless his numbers increase. - IRON.MAIDEN
He's no Statsny, Plekanecs, Lecavalier, etc... |

Exactly. Been saying this since the playoffs started. The Kings mimic how the Bruins played last year and you could really see it against the Canucks. Strong, defensive but opportunistic with great goaltending. I hope they win.
I know it's inevitable for Leafs fans to start saying "all you have to do is make 8th place, look at the Kings". Fact is, Richards, Carter, Doughty, Kopitar and Quick. That's not your typical 8th placed team and definitely far away from what the Leafs have. - Unholy_Goalie
The kings aren't the only team to squeek into the playoffs and make a good run.
Many have done it before and will do it again.
You only gain "playoff"experience by being in the playoffs.
To say anything otherwise is just plain stupidity. |

Toronto has a ton of youth on d though, and needs to trade from that position of strength to fill needs. If the rumors about Schultz are true, Schenn's $3.6 can be moved to fill a need. |

Man... I'm bored at work today... so I thought I would read some HB.
In summary, it really sucks UG is back. It was awesome with him not the boards.
It's been a pretty sad time in HB with UG back. He's a jerk. |

I'd rather trade Gunner and/o Franson.
Phanuef, Gardiner, Liles, Komi, Schenn, Schultz, Blacker, Holzer, Percy
Kinda a bit of everything... offensive and defensive... and a pretty young group. |

ok but LA isnt truly an 8th seed team and to say so is foolish..
they severely underachieved throughout the regular season and have found the groove that they should of had all year in the post season... the kings on paper are easily one of the best western conference teams
not to mention the kings went through years of missing the post season to build the team they have now |

In my opinion if Brian Burke makes these moves in the offseason, the Leafs will make the playoffs.
First move, trade for Roberto Luongo.
MacArthur, Komisarek, 2nd for Luongo.
Second move, trade for Paul Stastny.
Kadri, Connolly, Gunnarson for Stastny.
Third move, sign Justin Schultz.
Fourth move, sign Zach Parise.
Fifth move, sign Dustin Penner.
So the team looks like this,
Parise/Stastny/Kessel
Lupul/Grabo/Kulemin
Penner/Colborne/Frattin
Crabb/Steckel/Brown
Phaneuf/Liles
Gardiner/Schultz
Schenn/Franson
Luongo
Reimer
Dump Bozak, Lombardi, and Armstrong for whatever you can get. |

It's a league of parity thanks to improved training and the CBA.
Leafs win 6 more games that they lost this year... then they make the playoffs.
That's 6 of 82. |

That's because if you ask most of the tools on here...they'll tell you that they're all 'middling' prospects. - Pen15
Anthopoulos is doing a poor job also, although I am willing to concede that he was probably hamstrung by Rogers holding tight on the purse strings... some missed opportunities this summer will cost the Jays HUGE.
The Leafs prospects are almost all middling at best. Who is a future star? |

I would ony trade D if 1) The return was excellent, i.e. overpaying or 2) The Leafs were a piece or two away from becoming a legitimate contender or 3) The young D core has had a few years to start to show what their potential is.
... this fan base needs patience. |

I would let Colborne marinate a little longer and hang onto Bozak. He will be a great #3C. |

bozak is a ideal 3rd liner. He isnt great at anything but good at everything
offense, defensive play, faceoffs. The leafs just need him to play outside of his comfort zone since we havent had anyone else |

Last I checked, they finished 8th
Making them an 8th seed.....who cares what it says on paper...that means nothing.
Obviously the Kings are a great team...but lesser teams have squeeked in and made it a few rounds too.
Im sick of this stupidity surrounded, "oh I just dont want to finish 8th" crap.

see .. thats the problem with your argument
you simply dismiss anything that stands against it
yes they finished 8th.. but only a bloody fool would even contemplate comparing the kings roster with the leafs
if the leafs would of gotten into the 8th seed they would of faced the rangers first.. and they would of been run over.
