Anytime someone suggests bringing a good player to the Leafs the immediate first course of action is to beat that player down and proclaim him not good enough for the Leafs.

Pretty well known fact that Kiprusoff is a better goalie than Luongo. Not to mention he doesn't have a 10 year contract. But you'd only know that if you actually watched hockey. - Unholy_Goalie
He is also 3 years older...which will hurt his value a bit. |

The fact that certain Leafs fans think Toronto is the team getting robbed in that deal or that Luongo would be a better option, is hilarious.
The Flames aren't going to part with Kiprusoff because they need him to fuel the same 8th place dreams they have. And if they do trade him, they will get a huge return on him. - Unholy_Goalie
I couldn't actually remember the original trade proposal, so I dug it up. Here it is:
To CGY:
Lombardi
MacArthur
Schenn
Colborne
Reimer
To TOR:
Kipper
So here's the thing: if you took Lombardi off, the deal looks a lot different. But no way that Calgary agrees to take that stiff and his uninsured $3.5 million for next year. No way.
MacArthur is a decent 3rd liner - OK 2nd liner. But he is in the last year of a contract, so that doesn't make him that appealing to Calgary - he's gone after one year.
Schenn - OK, I'm no longer a big fan, but there are many in the hockey world who think the kid still can be a top-pairing d-man. So that's something.
Colborne: middling prospect.
Reimer: unproven goalie with a concussion problem and a huge contract.
You add that all up, and it does not equal a good goalie, who shows no signs of aging, and who will only be making $1.5 million next season. |

Like what exactly smartass? 5 first rounders?
Schenn is a 5th overall, that has had some development, Colborne is a 1st (17th overall) who again has had some time to develop without really upping his salary too high, plus the other pieces... |

Kipper is in fact NOT batter.
To say otherwise is a misinformed fairweather hockey fan.

Trading Schenn and Reimer for a guy like Kipper would be a huge mistake anyways.
He only has a couple of years left in him of good hockey. We won't be a cup contender by then, so why brother trading 2 good young players for a 35 year old?

Kipper is an outstanding goalie. Only reason the Flames aren't picking Yakupov this year.

although at the same time if someone offered you that trade you would turn it down as a leafs fan wanting to rebuild. correct?
You're not going nuts over there are ye? - Lee Denault
Absolutely no way they should actually take that trade but speaking strictly from a value standpoint, Kiprusoff would go for more than that. The Flames are dead in the water without him and if they traded him, they would get a lot more than that. |

Weird eh? He was crying over the fact we traded a 2nd rounder for Liles.
And he threw a hissy fit a few days ago when I suggest trading Franson and Gunnarsson for some needs upfront and signing a guy like Jackman.
His response?
" Brilliant. Trade away 2 young players just to sign a 31 year old"
Or something stupid liek that. |

and the leafs of course have no need to kipper as when we are ready to actually compete he will be long retired. |

For a guy with 71 NHL games total, concussion problems, and a giant question mark, yes, $1.8 million cap hit is huge.
For Calgary, yes, it is huge. |
