One year (ok, it changed after two weeks), when I played Atome baseball, there weren't enough kids in Trois-Rivières to make enough teams, so they decided to play without outfielders because we sucked so much the ball never went there anyway.

So everytime we hit the ball in the grass, it was almost a guaranteed homerun.

about 2-3 years ago an acquaintance asked me and a buddy to join their softball team. we joined up. we were told it was a very casual beer league. which was good because i hadn't played softball since high school. (we played 6 games and got mercy'd every time.) turns out it wasn't so casual. we show up, guys are jacking the ball over the outfield fence. pretty sure i saw some guy juicing in the back of his pickup. could have been fredo.

ya after the first game the team manager gave us back our cheques and told us they didn't need us anymore bcause they already had too many players. in hindsight, i don't think he was being honest.

Hmm, I'll coach my daughters too if they play sports. At least, sports that I have a basic knowledge of.

So you wouldn't coach.

I've been playing hockey since I was 4. And started soccer around 6 or 7, before stopping at 16.

Maybe knowledge wasn't a good term, since it's subjective, experience would be more appropriate.

My bad, 2nd language you know... eh Howard

In my 1st baseball game, I hit a foul ball and ran to the 3rd base. My father didn't bring me to the ice cream like he promised before the game

Some parents are too serious when they coach kids at that age, let them have fun first, also, make sure you teach them the basics.

Some coaches in pre-novice teach kids how to do breakouts, when they can't even make a pass or skate correctly...

Teaching should prime over winning at that age IMO.

My coach (frank)ing wanted us to practice bunts even though we were 5, playing pré-atome and STILL PLAYING WITH A T-BALL.

It served me when bunts were allowed...6 YEARS LATER.

that's not even the worst. one time at sleepaway camp, our age group put together a softball team to play against other camps. so they held tryouts. there were 15 of us. so youd think everyone would make the team, right? nope. 2 guys got cut: me and some fat kid.

worst part? they announced the "squad" later that night at a bbq in front of all the girls.

worst part is, after every email the division manager has sent to everyone he always replies to all asking for a french version... even to emails such as:

"ok everyone just a reminder we have a meeting after the games tonight, it should last about 10 minutes"

I had never met him in person so I figured this guy probably didn't know a single word of English.

yesterday we were playing his team and he comes up to me, chats in the most perfect English, we joke around...

I was (frank)ing SHOCKED when I found out it was him after the game.

(frank) we're all just volunteers trying to help a bunch of 4-year olds have a good time and this guy decides to make it his Alamo...

I'm good Bruce and you?

my team is so disorganized I think they gave me the 9 dumbest kids...

last week Fabio Capello had his team all set up for kick-off, all four of them (they play 4 on for) were standing at the kick off circle, I got my kids all pumped and all 9 of them charged the other team like at the end of Braveheart... it was classic.

p.s: we beat them too
