I think people clamoring for a total rebuild are just bitter Leaf fans tired of the same failure year after year with nothing to show for it. And rightly so. HOWEVER, you have to look at the big picture for a minute. I find it laughable that people seem to forget where we were in the standings as late as February. That's a far cry from past years when we were all but done in December. Our goaltending or lack thereof in the second half hurt this team tremendously. And personally, I believe the lack of veteran leadership played a role as well.

We are not as far away as you would think people. To say the team needs to be blown up and rebooted is ridiculous. We are one of the youngest teams in the league already.....these players need to play and grow together. Reimer can still be a true number one netminder. You have to give the guy a fresh start. The shot he took from Gionta messed him up totally. Having said that, we definitely need to upgrade the goaltending tandem as a whole. If Burke is able to do that successfully, add a couple of pieces up front (at least one top-6 forward, preferably a centre and an impact veteran leader) and we have a playoff team....especially if Reimer can return to form.

If Burke can do that and somehow shed some dead weight salaries (eg. Armstrong, Connolly, Komisarek), we'll be in fine position. Don't think it's impossible. He was able to rid the team of Blake and Giguere's contracts when everyone thought that was impossible.....and look at the return he got for Beauchemin, who was all but tarred and feathered by the fans and media here.

I'm just saying the future is not as bleak as it once was......there is no need for a total annihilation of the roster. We don't look that bad going forward, but the right moves need to be made.
