Did he sign an extension with Detroit?

That's a guy you gotta consider.... if he plays on the right side at least.

If you give them the money, yes they will sign. Brad Stuart was just that, a 3rd pairing D, with Detroit this year.

Because you compare our D to Detroit's?

All 30 teams want him.

As long as we try to get him I'll be happy. I like the look of the D in the next few years.
And stormey I figured out 36....you've been banned 35 times already.

God damn it. Who cares if he plays on the 2nd or the 3rd. If we pay him good enough he'll come.

I don't think so.

But I saw Messi scoring 5 live in the Champions league, what a great player he is.

Bob Hartley is undergoing vetting for French speaking, grammar, and sacrilegious swearing abilities first.

Habs don't wanna take any chances on another Cunnyworth-like (frank)-up.

I don't disagree, but

(1) Emelin did not get to really play the whole season, only got real minutes and significant ice time in the second half of the season, so that will help a little

(2) I don't want to be stuck with another lame 2-3 year deal like we had with Spacek (who, I kinda did not mind, really) and now Kabele, etc.

Habs are not going to be contenders, so they don't need guys like that to fill out their roster for depth. They need cheap guys with monimum commitment who can play well enough (Weber, Diaz, etc..), but are easy to put aside when the kids like Tonordi and Bealieu are ready to step in.

I don't want some vet blocking their path or development because of a dump contract whenever needed int he first place.

Brian Allan makes sense to me because he can be an upgrade, Kubina (who was benched by the Flyers) and Sarich are just a waste of money at this point. The only problem I have with Allan will be the contract he will likely get.

- JDJ

Before this year, i wasn't a fan of Allen, was it just a contract year? Or is he really the player we saw this year...i seriously wonder. The point of Kubina is that he should be cheap, 6'4 250 pounds and playing him with Markov would help his lack of speed just like Komisarek.

way too early to tell. I have to say, I'm excited about this new direction, and seeing new staff in management, but Habs are the same on the ice at the moment.

He is doing what he has to do, changes on the ice will come in time.

The upgrades on eyewear alone are positive.

Don;t short-change the guy for what he has already accomplished.

Give him a fair shot.

That's a 3 game span. Good thing you can get a handle of what a player is in such a small sample. You must be a professional scout.

Too true... though I suspect our problems weren't really about who was on the ice. Changing the leadership alone, without one change on skates, may make this a better team.

That said, I hope we draft Nail, and sign Parenteau to play with Pleks.

Depends what level you are watching. Since TVAsports is showing the champion's league, I found some interest in it. I watched the game everytime I was free on Tuesday/Wednesday afternoons.

The commentators are really good, way better than RDS's staff, and I can't stand the brittish accent, so ESPN/TSN is a no go for me.

Comment on Mathias Brunet's blog

I think he had been pretty solid most of his career, but he had a really strong season last year in particular.

That is my concern about Allen, you are playing for last year's guy but likely getting the solid (if unspectacular) player from the previous 2-3-4 years ago.

Likely manageable on 2-3 years, but anything longer than that, knowing the kids coming up in the system, might be a bad idea... especially with Kaberle still in the fold.

I suspect Allan will get a 5-year deal.
