Don't worry it's not true.
And you do know that the Coach does not give players contracts or make player moves. - Oilhab
I think the "he" was Bergevin... you know, now that he has hired a coach, let's see what he does about the contracts...
and what makes you so sure it's not true? |

Well now people, are any of us really discussing it seriously because Ek said it? If it's accurate he hardly broke the story. Mainstream reporters have been calling Hartley a top candidate for weeks, and a couple of pundits have been calling it a done deal since mid last week... likely because of his presence at the Memorial Cup. So Ek is not really being too original here. And we all know it may not happen. But Hartley is clearly a serious candidate. Anyone but Roy works for me. |

Yeah, it turned out pretty bad for John Tortorella. - Habsody
And Crawford and Morris and Melrose....and for the record Torterrella is having one good year behind the Rangers bench and some notable first round exits. |

If Hartley is indeed the coach - does he keep Cunneyworth? |

to be honest it's has been discussed here (in the Montreal area) for about a week now.
I don't want Hartley, but if he's Bergevin's man, well...there is not much I can do, but hope he's right, and wish him the best. |

bad coach. bad idea. - 13LEAFS01
And this great insight is based on what exactly?
What makes him a bad coach?
Is it the 5 First place finishes in his division in 8 seasons?
The Stanley cup? The winning record in every season but 1?
The Zurich Championship? The mentorship of the Memorial Cup Champions?
Just curious? |

Thank you. We could do a lot worse than Bob Hartley. Heck, some fools were suggesting Patrick Roy for a while there. |

Hartley will join the GREAT front office that has been assembled over the last month or so in Montreal
Really? a rookie GM and a leaf spare part? |

He over states things on a regular basis.
Remember the blog where he called Callahan the best captain in hockey?
A guy who's a first year captain who hasn't won a thing |

It's not like Bob Hartley stopped coaching for long....
If he does become the Habs coach, i'm sure he'll do a good job. - Scabeh
Just coming on 5 years.... well, except for that stint in Europe - that will make up for things.
Not long at all. |

The Leafs might have been wise to use Dudley as more than a spare part... but I understand why they wouldn't want to mess with their system.
Bergevin is doing some sensible things... retaining Timmins, bringing on Dudley, and now picking up hiring Mellanby to handle the development so Timmins can focus on the younger guys. |

That stint in Europe was with the Swedish Elite league, which is not a mickey mouse operation. At least he has kept himself active unlike the L'Antichambre candidates. |

A Leaf spare part???
Dudley is bailing on the sinking ship. If Bergevin gets in right he wins and if Bergevin gets in wrong he still wins. |

They all suck.
And that stint in Europe was forced on him because he could not find a coaching job anywhere in the NHL for the last 5 years.
Do you really remember Hartley being connected - in a very serious way, rather than just an unemployed name thrown out there by his RDS pals - with any coaching vacancies in the NHL since he was fired by the Thrashers?
I don't.
There is a reason for that.
Whatever, not gonna get any more worked up about it, nothing I can do anyways... |

Your point is well taken. I felt the same way about McGuire for GM. I see this as a little different, but I hear ya.

I actually was always curious why his name never did seem to float around more given the fact that he has a relatively successful track record. |
