(just to be a jerk... u started this... )

I'll say 2 things for MM. 1) At the very least he showed some emotion when he was involved with the team. He got as angry as I did when they played like crap. 2) some earlier moves (not his worst... but some were the result of an Owner telling him to cut the sallary down to zero. Both Spano and G-Stein wanted to cut the sallary below what they got from Cable (20 mill). There was no floor at that time.

The only good thing I can say for him is that he seems like a funny guy.

When we first got Laviolette and we had that great start...yeah, when no one showed up. Funny, I was at Trottier day that first home game, and then like 10 other games that season (pre-wife and kids, haha)...I met Milbury on the LIRR, and I shook his hand and said to him (and I quote), anyone who beats a Ranger fan with his own shoe can't be too bad, and he laughed and just said nice to meet you and kept along.

they shouldnt allow him because we dont even know if theyll be a team in 2 years. But realistically, it would be terrible if he got picked over Giroux
- leopurcaro

shouldn't you be praying to the gods of hockey right now instead of offering up such a weak question? Isles haters are the only ones who suggest the team will sell or move. You KNOW it's NOT happening. You don't get a market much better than NY. The fans are here. The owner has money. The team is near to returning to being a solid contender. It's the politicians who are screwing everything up.
Secondly, EA Sports is allowing the fans to determine who THEY want on the cover. The NHL doesn't own EA, so (and I assume the NHL is the "They" you refer to) THEY can't do a damn thing about it. YOU, however, COULD HAVE made your voice heard by voting for your own player, instead of joining the party so late and trying to be a spoiler. But you didn't. So go back to Jan Levine's post, where irrelevance rules.

I'd definitely have a beer with Milbury. But wouldn't let him even LOOK at my fantasy hockey roster.

Hey, back during camp I thought Kabanov was the prospect who deserved a 9-game reward before going back to juniors. He looked the least out-of-place out of all our prospects, including Strome, during the limited action I saw in the preseason games. Not at all saying Kabanov was, is, or ever will be better than Strome, but in the preseason games I watched, he seemed more aware and made better plays than the other youngsters. The worst part of his game was playing with the puck too much at the blue line.

I like the kid a lot... and not just b/c when I went to that draft party with my kids he was walking around with his Mom. I walked over to him (he was in the fan area.. not behind the ropes) and said.. um Kirill? .. he smiled signed my kids jersey .. high fived him..etc. He just seemed like a good kid.

I noticed it first in the rookie game against Boston's squad, but that's stuff he probably just gets away with in Juniors. He should learn quickly enough in the AHL that stuff like that won't fly. But the thing that impressed me...in the preseason games, when Strome was under pressure, he'd fire a blind pass through the middle, and if no one was there, it'd harmlessly pass through. In the same situations, Kabanov seemed to almost always find a teammate's stick. Maybe it was just a lot of luck? But he seemed to be very aware of who was where for a player that had not played the game at that speed before. I don't know if folks here will take it as praise or criticism (it's meant as a compliment), but I guess it was somewhat similar to PA's game...good awareness, offset a bit by some facepalm-worthy stickhandling mistakes.

Also, my entire analysis is based only on like, one rookie game and two preseason games that I saw him play.

Thats good to know, sounds great. Hope the kid turns out to be a good player and proves his skeptics wrong, besides we need some of these guys to pan out.

hahah....all you had to do was that extended wrap-around from behind the net to about the faceoff dot and it was a guaranteed goal. Chicago was beastly in that game...Roenick, Savard, Larmer, Chelios, Belfour in net.

UIF....no mistake on McDonough. One of my favorite unsung players on that '93 team. Big trade that was to get him and the Baumer in one svelte swoop.

- potvin05

McDonough wasnt on the 93 team

When I moved out of my folks' house after college I found an old Steve Thomas Sports Channel poster they probably gave away at a game back in the 90s. Brought back some memories of better days for the team. Loved the way they called his name after a goal too...STEeeeeEEEEVE THOMAS!

you know...I should have been thinking about the team that lost to the Rangers ('90 or '91, maybe?). I was thinking '93, because I remember the trade spurred them on to the playoffs. My bad.
Yep it 1990. Should have known that just for the simple reason of the 5-on-5 fight at the end of Game 1, when James Patrick elbowed LaFontaine in chin in the 3rd period of that game, and the great Rangers fans tried to flip over the ambulance on its way out from under the Garden. The sight of Baumgartner beating Kris King's ass and Vukota beating up Blomberg while laughing his ass off was all I had going for me that night.

Awesome, back then it was the BIGGEST rivalry in all of sports. Of course I still love Isles Ranger games but they don't hold a candle. Hopefully we get that back some day!

In all its glory. Seriously, though, what the hell does Arbour have Trottier taking the faceoff for in the first place?
