I don't think it's based on the team? Tavares is probably one of the most impressive players I've seen in I don't even know how long? it wouldn't be outrageous for him to be on that cover whether the Islanders are a joke or not.

Wouldn't be the most outrageous thing for JT to win the cover. Don't get me wrong I'd love for hank to be on there but JT is as deserving as anyone else that's nominated.

Unfortunately, when it comes to fan voting it's nothing more than a popularity contest. This isn't meant as a shot at the Habs, but look at the starting rosters for the '09 All Star game. I don't think anyone on earth really believed that Komisarek was an All Star starter. You could probably argue against Price that season also.

The Isles managed to get a pretty funny viral mini-campaign going on twitter, which is likely why JT beat out a guy like Datsyuk.

I am more impressed with JT's numbers over Malkin and Giroux. JT plays for the Isles with not much help and surely not as great a sorrounding cast as the Flyers and Pens. He carries his team game in and game out and is barely 21. In a few years JT will be #1 in the league. No doubt in my mind. Hes one of the few bright spots on this team.
