I don't see this as a problem...

That means French is losing strenght, and therefore dying in North America. If you don't think this is a problem, then I don't know what to say.

This is Montreal in 2012 where you can get anywhere and get anything in English.

It is not necessary to know French to live here because the majority of the Montreal population speak and understand English.

Well that shows you how poor the francisation program is. Which is deplorable.

They are (frank)ing hockey players. They play a game. (frank) cares what language they spew their generic, rehearsed lip service in? But the puck in the net and STFU.

I don't care personally.

But the players keep saying they will learn the language.

They create the controversy themselves when they don't do what they say.

I wonder why it's dying? Have you heard French quebecois speaking lately?

It's awful. Half the words are english words with a french pronunciation. Maybe if they could speak "their" language properly it would stick around for a few more years.

I truly feel its every Canadaian's duty to be fluent in both official languages because it's a part of all of our heritage. I just can't find a software I like yet.

Yes they need it. They speak daily to the media, and therefore to the public. If you need a guy who speaks french for the GM, a guy who'll speak to the media 10 times a year or so to the public, you certainly need a guy who speaks daily to the public to be able to speak to the majority of their fans in their mother language.

Unless the coach is Tortorella-lite during the Press conferences, then you don't really care.

- QuebecPride

The media needs the Canadiens more than the Canadiens need the media. So what if it has to be translated, it will get to the people no matter what. The only people who think it is an issue are anti-anglo... Like you.

They probably feel enormous pressure from the media and some fans alike who have lost sight of what these people do. They play a game. They don't run our schools or plan our future.

Montreal is a bilingual city, not a French city with a few anglos here and there, you can get by knowing one or the other. I speak both and wish more people did, but not my (frank)ing hockey team, I want them to win games. It would be great if they had some french content, but hockey > PR.

Without the Canadiens there are no sports sections in the newspaper or sports radio in Montreal. And there are 2 other french stations that would take the Habs rights from RDS if it was an issue.

Or, maybe they'd finally talk about something else... which quite frankly would be a good thing.
