I don't know how much it will matter but Gilbert and Parise are both from Minn.

Gilbert and Schultz are different players and the Oilers wanted the better defender. Also Gilbert earns close to $2 mill more per season. At the end of the day Suter is going to go where he can make the most money and to a place he wants to live for the next 7-10 years.

Actually their contracts are similar in terms of expiry date and actual wages, Gilbert makes a bit more but they are both about the same age. I think the Wild wanted an offensive type like Gilbert because Zidlicky wanted the hell out of there.

Who knows who won't mean much in the end with Suter. It will be all about the money and whether the new team can win.

And Parise's big mouth father came out the other day and said he thought Zach would look good in a Ranger jersey.

Really?! Nice move, JP. That alone would give me concerns about signing Parise.

He's definitely stepped it up since his draft year. Although I am starting to have some doubts about Waite's judgement. Wonder how much MacIver had to do with this.

Even with all the offensive prospects, the main target should be Parise. Then focus on Suter.... Possibly snag both
- Sharktank45

Where are they going to get the money? I only count about $5 million in cap space.

EDIT, I added that wrong, yes, they will have some cap room.

I wonder if Carruth ends up in Rockford for this coming season?

The hawks could reshape the team primarily thru FA and trade players for prospects and picks to manage the cap? That would make everyone happy, even stanbo

Well, that wasn't all that bad, but still really bad form to even discuss the Rangers hypothetically right now.

Kind of reminds me of Peter Stastny's comments about Greg Sherman last year. Ironically enough, the reason Dollar Bill Wirtz claimed he signed Doug Gilmour over Brett Hull in 98 was because he "didn't want Bobby around."

Maybe. I still think the goalie position is a trainwreck in the Hawks organization.

Still, it would seem it is going to take about $13-14 million to get them both and that would put them about $3-4 million under with 4-5 spots left to fill, one of which is a backup goalie. It will be tight unless they both will take a little less because they believe this team can really come together quickly and be a contender for several years.

What is intriguing is who may be available via trade after Suter and Parise sign. For example, if Suter were to sign with the Hawks, is Hjalmarsson available and what does it take?

I heard a few month back by a source that Parise has told friends he wants to sign with NYR Minny or Det. He will not re-sign with NJ . It is also a very strong rumour Parise and Suter want to play together.Pierre Lebrun and Bob MacKenzie have both said they have heard the same rumour.

I don't think Chicago needs either one.You have 4 great top 6 forwards and 3 very good top 4 D .IMO the problem is in the bottom half of the Hawks and goaltending.

JJ even though you think LUs contract is an Albatross , he finally grew up this year and stole many games for the Canucks. You for one should know our D is average. You have said many times Canucks have 3/4 D no true number 1/2 . You are not wrong. If we had Keith Seabrook we might have had a cup.

You are correct Rick....only $500K more, $3.5/$4.0....Don't know where I picked up Schultz's salary as $2.25 mill.

The funny thing about the Gilmour signing was they practically guaranteed him Hull would be here also...As the story went.

It didn't take Gilmour long to get out of Dodge...Mind you Wirtz paid him $6 mill per.

Parise Dad should know better than to make that comment now especially since those teams are battling each other.

The old man was a pretty good player but he needs to zip it....Not doing the kid any good.

Parise has skill and always works hard, he will be a richer young guy soon and will have his pick of destinations.

I think whomever gets BobbyLu will get him for a good price and he very well could be better away from Vancouver...

Now if he ends up in Toronto my opinion probably changes.

The other WHL Goalie, Kent Simpson can't be far behind in signing. Hawks have the same the issue with him as with Carruth, either sign him this summer or lose him..

Same here. The hawks either draft somewhat badly or develop prospects ineffectively. Not sure which, but something isn't quite right.

I know he was up in Rockford for the last couple of games of the season. I don't know if he saw any acton though.

I wonder if they do sign Simpson or not? I would think the Hawks wouldn't just want to let him walk away. I guess the question is do they buy out Richards? Do they re-sign Hutton? What about Salak? is he staying or going? Then there's Johan Mattsson. What about him?

They have only so many slots for guys under the 50 contract limit.
