the money is not a problem in Toronto..its the cap hit...for 10 years
Burke is good with trades... I trust he sees the value (or lack thereof) in Lu and the contract, and only takes it on the cheap cheap. - senstroll
He's got six years left, with real dollars being $6.7 mil with a cap of $5.33, at which time he'll be 39. Just turned 33 which means he'll be 33 all next season. If money isn't a problem for the richest team in the league, why wouldn't they just buy the last four years of his deal out for around 600K per year? Or send him to the minors, as his deal doesn't contain a NMC. |

Edmonton is going to manhandle the northwest for years to come. You're gonna choke on those words in a year or two & then for the next eight straight. |

because kulemin, reimer, macarthur ALL still have a VALUE that can be traded for other guys like chris stewart or stasny .. not some crappy as contract that extends to billion years later that vancouver wants to get rid of and then sign schneider to a extension where they also have a backup for him - Mapleleafs_91
Ya neither of those trades are happening.
The leafs need a high quality goalie....Lou is a high quality goalie. |

Reimer, Kulemin and 4th. - Fakepartofme
IF Luongo does go to the Leafs it will be for more then just throw aways. As someone stated earlier, if Luongo is not going ot get a decent return then Gillis will trade Schneider. The Canucks are very comfertable going with Luongo. They are in a situation where they have two #1 guys and there is not room on the roster for both. I can't see Gillis taking a bad trade just to dump Luongo. |

a bag of pucks would just do it, but need to send some cap back, so komisarek, a 3rd rounder, maybe a prospect like mueller. - Mapleleafs_91
Wow, do you really think that will get you Lou?
Really? |

So we've waited all these years to rebuild, and start to gain some real deal prospects and good young players, and now it's a good idea to bring in a guy who's 33 and has a monster contract. This is backwards. So now after he let's opportunities like Richards and Carter get away Burke is gonna bring in a cap circumventing contract? This would be brutal for Loungo and the Leafs. All this is is another quick fix attempt that will set the club back helping to waste the last 7 years of already hard to watch gong shows. DON'T DO IT! THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS FOR A QUICK 1-2 YEAR HOLE PLUG! Think people, what happens if Riemer is the real deal in the long run? The Leafs will be in the same boat Van is in, except try moving Loo when he's 35, 36. Loungo is good but stick to the plan and develop Riemer and Scrivens, bring in a Mason, or a Nabokov type guy that can mentor Riems and someone that can be easily sent away when the time comes. This will be the dumbest thing they could do, all because they had a 20 game bad stretch - MISTAKE! |

Cant compete?
Are you freakin drunk?
You have to MAKE the playoffs...Lou will do that.
Than you can compete in them...Lou will do that too! - Fakepartofme
At 33, Lou will not be the piece that pushes us from 5th last to 8th place on his own..
In another year, if we have the pieces to push us to the playoff spot he will be 34.. When we start being contenders he will be 35+.... I'd rather not waste the assets to acquire the guy that is not our biggest need right now. |

cap hit ... like mentioned already .. all the stuff you are mentioning is a risk and a gamble when taking him on... so you adjust your offer accordingly.... the return value drops off significantly when you factor in all the BS you mention

Along with the fact that our GM has specifically stated he does not like those contracts and would never sign someone to them. Does someone rewally expect him to stand up in front of a mic and say:
'Well, I meant I personally would never sign someone to them, but I am more than willing to trade for someone that is already signed to one of them"....? |

Gardiner, Komi and the Leafs 1st rounder for Luongo? - Symba007
Nope.
That trade will happen as soon as Montreal trades Subban and their 3rd overall for Lecavalier |

Ya, I just don't get it. He'll get your team to the playoffs and give you a shot at winning regularly. I'd have to think he's doing alright...

If Luongo comes to Toronto he better find some confidence or he'll continue the downward spiral he's in.
Hell, I would rather they bring back Trevor Kidd than bring in Luongo |

Edmonton will be a force for about 3 yrs then will see stars walk away since they won't have enough money to keep their rfa.
Hopefully you make a cup run like Chicago, since it's a similar fate |

These are the kinds of crazy comments that I can't understand. What gives you the idea he's on a "downward spiral"? He had a great year this year after a slow start and was nominated for the Vezina last year. So what gives? What are you talking about?
The problems with Lu are not in his abilities but rather with his contract. |

This story is just another hit whore for the site anyways so I'm done with it. Burke doesn't like ridiculous contracts so its not a story.
Luongo will get traded to another poop market where he has a chance at succeeding with minimal pressure. The end |
