Luongo only makes sense for the right price.

Vokoun, Thomas, Harding, and maybe some others are available this off season. If Reimer or Scrivens are the "real deal" than we only need a goalie for 2 or 3 years to take the pressure off of them. Not someone locked up for the next 10 years.

So, the question becomes... do you think Reimer, Scrivens, or Owuya will be as good as Luongo will be in 3 years?

This does not make much sense to me.

Luongo has a no trade contract, he wants to be Florida based, he wants to play for a contender. And, both the Panthers and Bolts want him. Both Florida teams are rich in prospects and can offer up a player without the Canucks having to take back salary. Florida is in better shape than Tampa on that front. But, I don't know what the Leafs can offer. Can someone explain to me how the Leafs become a part of this discussion.

Luongo for Schenn. Done deal. Nice and simple. One for one and helps both teams with players who need a change of scenery with new teams.
- CanUSA17

Dont thnk we can afford that. You guys will need to take Connolly or Komisarek.. Either is fine

Spatso, you and I both know EK is going for hits today since this has been a pretty slow off season so far... his kids need to eat!!!!!!!!

But, you are right. Luongo will be a non tax payer in Florida in no time.

Ya, I just don't get it. He'll get your team to the playoffs and give you a shot at winning regularly. I'd have to think he's doing alright...

Here's some stats for ya for the past 5 seasons among active goalies:

GP/W/L/SO/GAA/S%/Win%

Miikka Kiprusoff 366 191 124 20 2.57 0.911 0.522
Henrik Lundqvist345 185 121 36 2.26 0.920 0.536
Ryan Miller 331 176 106 24 2.51 0.917 0.532
Cam Ward 326 161 120 19 2.63 0.915 0.494
Ilya Bryzgalov 325 165 112 27 2.53 0.916 0.508

but your selling 33-43 year old Luongo ... not 28-33 year old Luongo

The price has dropped... almost to the point Van just needs to walk away....they owe more on the mortgage than the house is worth

I wouldn't be so sure the panthers want him back, they have a very good young goalie. Tampa has interest for sure but I doubt they are willing to give up much other than Malone and a ok prospect or mid round draft pick

Tampa I believe is a real possible destination but you can count Florida out. They have the best goalie prospect in the world wating in the wings to make the club in Markstrom. Bringing in Lou will only stall his devlopment.

This guy really does love South Florida. His contract is almost a perfect fit as there is no back loading of actual dollars and the contract was signed long before he age 35 (he is 33 now).

This Young Florida team is just loaded with young talent and prospects. Very few teams can offer up what Tallon would be able to do. More important Florida has no need for Vancouver to take back any salary.

I think Lu loves being the "guy" the diffrence maker, leafs need another voice in the room and on the ice. I think he would love the idea of being the reason the leafs get to the post season

Florida would be stupid to even pick up the phone if Van was calling... in 2 or 3 seasons they will be in the same position Van is, trying to sell an older asset with lots of term left.. and have a better younger goalie stealing starts

leave him to rot in Van

This is the only reason Florida hesitates. But, if the deal looks good they will move on Luongo.

Let's get real here...

Toronto fans have loved poopting on Luongo not because he is a bad goalie, but because he's on the Canucks and not a Leaf. It wouldn't take long for Leafs fans to love Luongo if he started kicking ass. Sure, Luongo has played some brutal games and choked in a few bigger games, but at the same time there is no denying his talent and that he would be an upgrade in net for the Leafs. Realistically I think Luongo still has another 5 good years in him (30+w / 5so).
Furthermore, I don't believe Luongo's NTC does travels with him, so if he can be traded for once, it's possible that he might become an even more tradeable asset in the near future if/when a younger goalie was developed or was traded for.

For all those people saying the Luongo will see the Leafs into the playoffs need to give their heads a shake because we all know that the Leafs' issues run deeper than just goaltending and that there are certainly no guarantees with injuries. The problem with Luongo is not only his contract, but I'm not entirely sold that the timing is right either.

The bottom line is that IF Luongo does in fact become a Leaf, the price has to be right. In other words, the Leafs shouldn't be dealing the 5th overall / Gardiner / Schenn / Kessel or Lupul (given their natural chemestry) and possibly a couple other's. I'm not saying that the Leafs will only deal their spare parts, but Luongo HAS TO fit in with the Leafs' plans, not Vancouver's

Lu playing 60+ games for the next 5-6 years will do a lot more that stall his development. The Panthers would have no choice but to trade Markstrom, and even though he's probally the best goalie prospect in the wrold right now I really doubt they get anywhere close to his value on the market.

Luongo had a very good past season in Vancouver. He is still an elite guy with 4 or 5 top years ahead in his career. Florida and Tampa will not be the only teams to step up. Also look for teams like Chicago, Columbus, Anahiem and, the one I find strangest, Ottawa to kick the tires on a possible deal.

It;s where I thought Lu would be dealt all along, question is what's the price?

Guaranteed Komisarek is going the other way but his value is a heck of alot less than Lu.

My guess is the final price will be something like Komisarek, McArthur and a 2nd round pick for Lu and David Booth.

I say Luongo goes to:
1. a small (media) market team
2. team needing to keep make minimum cap space

The opposing team gets:
1. to unload another contract
2. gets a prospect or good pick in the deal

Toronto makes sense in the latter part of this equation but Florida might be a good place for him. Tallon knows Roberto very well from his days in Chicago. Tampa? Wow, who do they unload the other direction? Malone?

Then there's the CBA. Why trade Luo and not get a lot in return if teams think they'll be able to dump a player? Even if it's not Luo, every team may have a different makeup after the CBA if a "dump" clause goes in. For example, the Isles. After the CBA, they get to dump Mr. Glass and replace him with Luo. ???
