I'm sorry. How many GWG's did Luongo score again? I really hate when people say a goalie won this or that for their team. It has never happened in the history of hockey. A great goalie can keep his team in the game, but he will never win the game. Goals win games, people, not saves. A goalie only needs to make more saves than his opposing netminder. Skaters need to crash and bang and push their bodies beyond natural limits to score the goals that win the game.

End of lesson. Class dismissed.

Like I said....I see two major holes in the Canucks....and until they're addressed, there is no guarantee that they beat any of the teams you listed...
- Pen15

Well, I don't disagree entirely, that's why in my post I said "with the proper tweeks..." but I don't think there are major holes. But even if they don't fill all of those spots with ideal players, the Canucks will still be in contention, so it's not exactly a bleak situation to be in.

IMO they need one top6 forward. Doesn't need to be a star, just a capable pass-first winger (certainly easier to find than a centre).

One top4 D. Preferably a RHS to play with Edler.

Bottom6 depth.

I don't think any of those spots are impossible to fill with trades and/or free agency.

edit: All of those teams are going to have to make changes. I don't think any of them are much better off than the Canucks.

I think it's more than tweaks. I think you guys should be after a prime time power forward or big centre. The core on the Canucks lacks the grit and intensity needed to win.

Just an opinion though.

Hey chuckles...

who had the more disappointing season.

What excuse do you want to give year after year after year.

You think that not making the playoffs is better than making the playoffs? How does one even discuss that logic?

I think his point factors in 'expectations'. The Leafs had none...while anything less than the SC for the Canucks would be a failure.

I am sorry that you cannot answer the question.
I did not use a question mark, because it was rhetorical.

Vancouver had a FAR more disappointing season. In fact, I would gladly watch the Leafs fail again next year if Vancouver gets to fail even harder vs. expectation.

- GoneFullRetard

You do realize we won more games than your team .BTW the idea of hockey is to win and try to make the playoffs.

Well listening to Leaf fans around Christmas they had the parade planned .Kessel was going to win the Hart and Reimer the Vezinna , How did that work out?

I seen the way this team was playing all year I was not expecing much ,in fact I was hoping they didn't succeed so we can get rid of some core players like Luongo and one or two others.

This is simply bullsh!t.

Don't let your few conversations with a few leafs fans skew reality. The fact is the leafs had low expectations...and the majority of leafs fans expected them to compete for a playoff spot...which is what they did for most of the season.

Burke was calling Kessel the best player in the game around Xmas time. It starts at the top.

Making the playoffs and winning the cup is one thing; Making the playoffs and sh!tting the bed is another.

By the way, who do you think the Leafs should select with the 5th overall? Let's discuss that!

I think this is absolutely true.

In fact, if the Canucks got by LA, they would probably have won the cup.

- GoneFullRetard

they would have lost to nashville in the second round since kesler didn't show up this year, and he was the factor that got them by last year.

Centre is the last thing they need. Kesler is a good size centre, and plays a power-forward style offensive game. Booth also plays that style, and didn't have as bad a season as most think—would've had 23 goals 44 points over 82. And both will have better years if they get a pass-first winger.

Most teams in the league lack a true power forward. If the Canucks can get one more big guy with grit on the 3rd or 4th line who isn't a detriment while on the ice, and a physical defenseman to handle the opposition's power forward, that will be enough.

That's also why they grabbed Kassian. Kid put up very respectable numbers in the AHL—there's no reason to think, with a good offseason training regimen, he won't improve enough to contribute.

You can't have one without the other, if Luongo doesn't make that save against Demitra. Forwards don't have an opportunity to score because they go home. Although I think that would have just tied the game? Can't remember and I'm not gonna look it up.

If the game was just about the forwards then why do they have goaltenders? Just play without one and see who can score the most goals

The Penguins scored an average of five goals a game against Philly this year, news flash, they still lost because their goaltending sucked. Again, you can't have one without the other. Great goaltending gives you an opportunity to win just as much as scoring goals!

right on haha. I guess what I mean is... is the fan base as a whole confident that Schneider will be good for a whole year? I mean he has played second fiddle his whole career, and its a big step up. Not trolling, just wondering.

Almost no doubt in my mind. Luongo had the skill and ability, but at times was mentally lacking or unprepared. Schneider has the same gifts as Luongo, but also is as calm as they come.

USA is going to have a tough time picking 3 goalies for the next olympics.
