The fans will be OK when Gillis is able to use the assets from the Schnieder trade to make the team better. Luongo is still a very good gaolie that can win games. Why do people always ignore this and call him a bum. A GM's job is to ice a team that can win games, not make a bad decision to accomidate a couple of bandwagon fans.

yup you're right.

Trading schnieder will make the team better with the assets he brings in. And they have Lack ready to move into the back up spot (whom I think will be better then schneider). The timing with Lack will be perfect with him ready to take the reigns as Luongo is more tradeable contractwise. Lack is also RFA this year, so him seeing that he's getting a shot and worked into the teams future will also help in that area.

And at that point Cannata will be ready to back up Lack. Canucks are set in the goalie position for quite a while.

Keeping schnieder and trading lou is a slight change for the now. But a worse change for the teams future.

the absolute closest parallel to the Luongo situation in recent hockey history is the Giguerre to Toronto deal
1) older goalie losing #1 spot to younger, less expensive emerging player (Check 100% match)
2) older goalie with hefty contract and CAP hit (Check 100% match)
3) Conn Smyth winner and Cup winner.... (Ooooops - guess Luo has less value as a result
4) older goalie with hefty contract and CAP hit has two years left on term .... (huge OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOps here... Luo under contract until the end of time so Luo has less value as a result


Giguerre garnered CAP dump of Jason Blake and Vesa Toskala.
Luongo yields... not very much how's about Tim Connelly or Mike Komisarek and a 5th round draft pick.

That should just about do it.

Dude...I know you're a troll but c'mon man.


I like Schroeder and think he'll have a better career than Wellwood. Wellwood has the skill and vision to be an all-star but physically he never had it. Not big or strong and not a fast skater either, you need at least one of those things to be a top 6 forward in the NHL. Schroeder has great speed and similar vision/hands to be better than Welly, and let's not forget that Wellwood wasn't always exactly in great physical shape and Schroeder definitely is.

The same lack of speed/size is why I think Hodgson will never be a top center, I think he'll be a 2nd/3rd line center, but definitely one that you'd love to have on your team for his character and ability to score big goals.

TO will be a distant second..i still feel TB will Get LUONGO!
