I think the only reason you are moving down is because you know the guy you like best isn't going to go until later, which would be the case if you think Reinhart or Galchenyuk are the best player. Or if you are getting an absolute hell of a deal, something based around Piternagelo for the 1st. - Lahey
I find Garth Snow is more conservative with his assets vs Burke in TOR. Burke would love the idea of picking first and select whoever he pleases vs Snow is going to stay the course and just pick at 4th. The more I look at it EDM-TOR day after day, Schenn, 5th overall for EDM 1st overall isn't all that bad. Does TOR really want Yakupov? I think they want Galchenyuk or Grigorenko, but Burke has always states publicly how drafting the best prospect is first priority, not address team immediate needs. |

I'm thinking by draft time ST should have an idea who is going to pick who and can make a calculated risk in decieding whether or not he should trade down.

The question is also would EDM pick another defenseman if they moved down and got a defenseman in return from the trade. It's not like the top 6 is ugly bad, just maybe missing some size. I really can't see NYI trading with EDM, more like TOR. Galchenyuk or Forsberg be nice additions. Adding either can eventually make Gagner, Hemsky, PRV expendable. - deks1
Im not saying we SHOULD draft down and take a dman neccasarily. its still a gamble and might be a wait regardless.
But
Our defence is kinda ugly bad. Even with another solid top 4 acquisition its still probably just average.
Alot depends on a healthy whitney and petry taking furthur steps. If all these pieces fell into place AND we added another solid top 4, its a ton better. |

I'd consider it for schenn although I don't like his skating.
I'm curious how much oiler scouts saw galchenyuk last year. I wonder how much they scout for upcoming years. For example Seth jones and Nathan McKinnon. You can steal a player if you scout them early and then they sustain big injuries like Reilly, galchenyuk, and maybe even Brett Connolly from 2010 (still could turn out ok).
I'm hoping they have a good idea what a player like galchenyuk can do and become if they choose to trade down or take yak instead. I'd hate for them to be in a situation to pass on a player due to unfamiliarity. |

At this point average is good enough. We are the 29th place team we can't just expect great defense over night. Unless of course someone demands a trade or the new CBA forces a team to move salary or an owner says (frank) this noise and cuts salary. |

Yes.
Its alot better than what we have currently.
Im not talking 'elite', we're far from that.
But with those 2 'ifs' and another guy, we'd could reasonably hope to have a pretty solid group. |

I don't care who they pick just as long as they think it's the right pick. |
