The average salary of the D men and forwards is irrelevant. Right now the biggest need is the defense. Giroux did just fine without an elite forward. And how does a forward become elite? Over time. Draft picks develop into elite forwards sometimes. have some patience and let's stop going for quick fixes and let these forwards grow.

You could make the same argument about a D-man - they become elite over time.

I don't think Parise is a quick fix - he is a piece of the puzzle to get to the cup.

Bottom line is this - Parise as a realistic addition improves this team more than any other realistic addition. I don't know why the panic button is being hit on the defense.

I don't want Giroux to be fine - I want him to unleash hell. I love the thought of a harts - g - parise #1 line and a talbot - coots - schenn checking line.

I could tell you today is Tuesday and you would probably disagree and come back with we need better defense. So I'll end my 3 day postings here.

I agree that D should be the main focus, but I think it is worth saying that Jagr and Hartnell did a very good job of supporting Giroux and Jagr is most likely gone. Giroux will have a new winger to play with next year (could be someone already on the roster).

BTW: for wacky stuff you see on line for the day (not my proposal please mind you)

CBJ: Bryzgalov, JVR, 1st
PHI: Mason and Nash

Found the one goaltender in the league that's actually worse than Bryz.

G rocks at beer pong. I think that may be Uppy next to him. And I also saw a pic of him playing that beanbag game shirtless. I'm not thinking he spends any more time in the gym than Richie did!

What Defenseman currently in the system has the potential to become elite? We'll start there.

Yep, and it's time for JVR or Voracek to take on that role of first line Winger with Giroux.

Hey if we can trade some youth for the right defenseman, and then go the UFA route to add someone like Parise. I'm all for it. But tell me who that defenseman is.

Yeah, not sure who that 'clip on tie' is next to him.

The Coors light isn't the biggest concern considering he is hanging with douchebags and chicks who could pass for zoo animals...

I'd love Parise, but Nash remains a more realistic option IMO. Getting an elite winger is something I'm definitely in favor of though, and would obviously prefer the former. I just don't know if we'll be able to beat out Detroit, Minnesota, and NJ for him. Who knows though.

Would love Slater on the 4th line for sure.

A fair amount of salary has to be moved to make either happen. My guess don't bank on either and focus on other players to go after.
