Then CapGeek is wrong. - blackhawk24
Look at the salary...Not the the cap hit... there is a tab at top...
Hossa has been making more in salary than his cap hit after the first season...
His salary in 16-17 is only $4 mill and then drops to $1 mill.

You might call him a total waste of space, but the Hawks best option there might be Carcillo. He is not without hockey sense and skill and he provides protection on that line no one else on the team can. Bollig can't play there. Shaw is tough but not as tough as Carcillo.
The Hawks might need a policeman for Toews for the rest of his career, the tougher the better. Right now, unless they got a Lucic type, that's Carcillo. - John Jaeckel
Hey JJ,
If we see Carcillo on the top 2 lines next season, do you think Bollig will 100% be re-singned and end up on the 4th? We need that kid back next year, people who can lay punishing hits and grit are definitley in short supply on this team. Plus he's cheap. |

So what does the buyout cap hit column mean on the far right? |

I have a feeling he'll be back. if not, it will be because of roster numbers and he will most likely be re-signed to a two-way deal regardless. if John Scott had a place on this team for nearly two seasons, Bollig should. |

Not sure what you are referring to...Hossa has a $62.8 mill contract but only $4 mill will be owed to him in the last four years...
That is the amount to use to calculate what a buyout would cost in the last four seasons. |

I think Bollig doesn't have many options although his agent will be pushing for a two-way deal...Not very likely is my guess too. |

Bollig and agent will want a two way...But I agree they won't get one.

Go run a buyout on Hossa please. Put in 2017 and you'll see what I mean.
The cut-&-paste version is below:
Marian Hossa buyout from CapGeek.com
2017-18: $4,608,333
2018-19: $4,608,333
2019-20: $4,608,333
2020-21: $4,608,333
2021-22: $333,333
2022-23: $333,333
2023-24: $333,333
2024-25: $333,333

Why would he want a two way? To avoid waivers if his AHL contract is whatever that min is? |

That isn't correct...
Hossa will only be paid $4 mill in 2016-2017 and then $1 mill for the next four seasons.
So in his last 5 seasons he will earn only $8 million....If he plays.
So his buyout number would be less...
Retiring is different....A reason to structure a players contract and spread the term out so long is for buyout purposes. |

No a one way contract means the players gets his full salary even though he is sent to the minors...
Last year Bollig earned $57,500 in Rockford and $545,000 in Chgo because he had a two way contract.. |

Does Bollig have arbitration rights? Better yet, does he have enough service time to recieve arbitration rights? Does service time even matter?
Being a RFA coming of his entry level, I don't think he has many options, especially if the organization extends a qualifying offer to Bollig.
I bet he ends up with a two-way deal, with a slight raise in both his NHL and AHL salaries. |

Chipping in late with the WCF reaction, but check out the replay of Penner's game winner again and watch Smith take a wicked slash at Richards after the puck is in the net. Series over, and takes a vicious swing at a premier player. Classless. |

I think the confusion is what Hossa gets paid versus what the Salary Cap hit is.
This is the Cap Hit - not what Hossa gets paid.
